2016 energy tariffs

• Competition and marketing authority (CMA) June 2016- 70% of people on more expensive standard variable tariffs costing an extra 1.4 billion pounds compared to the competitive market• Throughout 2016 4 million customers switched providers (Energy and Gas) eclipsing the past 3 years, with over 400,000 in the month of November 2016. • It is reported that around 40 million people are currently on standard tariff plans• Costs of transporting energy around the UK is projected to increase in 2017 (Electricity by 8-15% and Gas 5-6%)• OFGEM (Office of Gas and Electricity markets) introduced a supplier league table (December 2016) comparing the average bills paid on a standard tariff for the larger companies compared against the 10 cheapest deals- providing better info to switch and save, access to more accurate information based on actual energy usage
