The DGEN gas-based mega power project for 1200MW (3 units of 400MW) at Dahej in Gujrat is owned by Torrent Power Limited. The project was being constructed in the coastal area of Dahej which is largely an industrial zone.
The prevention of rebar corrosion was a big challenge as the saline environment is extremely prone to corrosion. As a solution, epoxy coated and CRS were evaluated in order to decrease the impact of corrosion on the rebars. However, the outcome of epoxy coating did not seem satisfactory and was very high on cost.
It was found that Tata Tiscon SD was nearly matching the specifications of BARC with UTS/YS>1.15. Further it was found that if rolled at higher temperatures in slower mills, normal Fe 500D could also develop higher ductility.
Keeping in mind the client’s monthly requirement and lead time of 25-30 days, a buffer stock was created at the Ahmedabadstockyard so as to be able to supply the material with minimum time gap.
