Tips on Asking Questions
● Be familiar with questions you’re going to
ask
● Be consistent with questions used
o Use behavioral-based questions
o HR has created and sent these out
o Be fair and protect your company
● Know what answers you’re looking
for, but also be open to new ideas.
Inform Your Staff
● Let them know
what day you’ll be
interviewing.
● Tell them who is
coming and when.
● Make sure they
respect the time.

Give Undivided Attention
● Minimize
everything on
computer (or do
Sleep Mode)
● DND your phone
● Silence your cell
● Close your door
(can even put a
paper sign on it)
Not Knowing Legal Limits
Direct questions about family, marital status,
age, religious or political affiliation are not
permitted within the employment interview.
A Few Questions to Avoid
● Are you married?
● Are you divorced?
● How old are you?
● Do you have any children or
intend to have children?
● What are your daycare plans?
● Do you own or rent a home?
● Do you have any debts?
● Do you suffer from any illnesses
or disabilities?
Provide Closure
● Be a stand up pro.
● Call or email all
candidates
interviewed.
● Thank them for
their time, and let
them know they
haven’t been
chosen.
