“City Woman”

macro overview

Despite the global population boom, the world seems progressively smaller, as online connectivity creates cross-cultural encounters at the tap of a smartphone. Whether it’s digital social exploration or physical encounters in previously inaccessible places, a new era is on the rise. As the world becomes smaller, design reflects the global, cultural melting pot. Connecting people, places and products in unique ways will become increasingly important, as new sources of inspiration emerge. No longer a case of westernization, it will be an era of globalization. Through this connectivity, design will become a complex layering of diverse cultural references, with underlying significance. Where once we saw clashing hybrids of contrasting cultures, in time, design will become more culturally integrated with a sense of travel, exploration and re-discovery. The season’s 2017 theme emulates the stylistic devotion of Joan Schulze’s, mixed-media quilt art. In much the same way, 2017 will herald ethnology through an honest collage of cultural styles, colors and fabrics.
