SOURCE OF LIGHTING in INDIA
• Around 43% of Rural Households in India i.e. 7.2 Crore rural households depend on kerosene as the only/main source of lighting (Census 2011)
• As per Census 2011, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, West Bengal, Orissa, Jharkhand suffer tremendously where more than 60% of the households in these states rely on kerosene lamp as the source of lighting affecting nearly 5.40 Crore Rural Households and impacting population of above 30 crore
• The number of Rural Households with only kerosene as the source of lighting in Madhya Pradesh is 45,46,696, Rajasthan is 37,29,431 and Maharashtra is 34,46,376
Some facts about our country
• Extensive use of kerosene lamps/candles: Majority of households depend on kerosene for lighting and the children study using these lamps which provide very dim and insufficient light in terms of illumination. The lamps put strain on the children’s eyes, emit smoke and give the children eye problems.
• Increasing Poverty: A rural household in India spends a substantial part of their income on kerosene fuel for lighting. The average monthly household expenditure on kerosene is as high as Rs. 100 per lamp (Rs. 1200/yr). The fuel prices are increasing and are available mainly in black market at a much higher price.
• Health Hazards: As the children are regularly exposed to kerosene lamps, the soot and toxic fumes emitted cause health problems like irritation in the eyes, severe respiratory illness (lung and throat cancers) and cataract to name a few.

• Fires & Burns: The number of victims of fire accidents and burn injuries due to use of kerosene lamps run into millions in India.
• Government Expenditure: Government provides kerosene by importing oil which drains valuable hard currency. The escalating costs of providing fuel drain money away from primary needs like food, health services, housing, drinking water etc.
• Environmental Degradation: Burning of billions of liter of fossil fuels increase global warming. It’s also reducing the available fossil fuel on the planet.

Kerosene lamps - Disadvantages
• Health Hazards: Kerosene lamps are 2nd largest health hazardous product in the world, as smoke from kerosene is responsible for respiratory infections, lung & throat cancers, serious eye infections, cataracts as well as low birth weights. Acute respiratory infections like influenza and pneumonia kill millions of children in developing nations each year. The World Bank estimates that 780 million women and children breathing kerosene fumes inhale the equivalent of smoke from 2 packs of cigarettes a day. Shockingly, approx. two-thirds of adult female lung-cancer victims in developing nations are non-smokers.
• Fire danger – Kerosene and candles cause countless fire catastrophes every year. In India alone, 2.5 million people (350,000 of them children) suffer severe burns each year, primarily due to overturned kerosene lamps. Each year, many homes burn to the ground when a lamp is toppled. (SELF Newsletter).
• Poor Lighting – Light from Kerosene lamps (2 to 4 lumens) is poor and inefficient as compared to 70 to 900 lumens provided by LED lights.
• Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions – India tops the list in the world and releases 124.7 million (70.6%) tonnes of GHG per year. An estimated 240 million tonnes per year of GHG is released by kerosene use in developing countries.

With the combined strength of Mitva and Duron team, we have a fully in-house design and development team, which specializes in rolling out products specific to India and other developing markets. We have several patents to our credit. Many of our products are manufactured in India .

SOLAR LED STREET LIGHT Solar array recharges the battery
replacing energy that was used during the previous evening.
The system is designed with a reserve, so that regular illumination will continue to be provided during periods of rainy or cloudy weather.
The controller monitors battery condition & will shut off illumination if the battery charge drops a specified level.
The controller automatically restarts the system when the condition is corrected & the battery charge returns to the specified level, protecting the batteries.
