This year Carrow Road celebrates its 80th birthday. That is a venerable age by any standards, especially when so many other grounds in England have had to change their name - either through re-location or the pressures of commercial sponsorship.

Not that Carrow Road today looks anything like its original in 1935. It has evolved from a third division (south) venue into a truly premier stadium. Fires, acts of parliament, television and technical progress have all contributed to that. Gone are the concrete terraces with their crush barriers, gone are the gents walking round the perimeter with a giant blackboard advising the raffle winners, gone is the marching silver band at half-time, the rattles and rosettes, the queues snaking through the turnstiles.

There may be those who regret their passing. But what Carrow Road has retained is its heart. It remains a friendly, sociable ground - friendly and a fortress when the need arises. It still has the power, as soon as the floodlights and flying buttresses come into view at Carrow Bridge, to inspire that sense of heightened hope and anticipation, of excitement and (we confess) that little knot in the stomach.

It is still home from home and the only place to be at 3pm on a Saturday. Long may it stand.

Club 101 was formed at the birth of the New River End stand and has had its own committee since its first meeting on the 19th September 1981. Now situated in the Community stand with its own spacious lounge and bar it offers a warm, relaxing and enjoyable football experience. Many friendships have been formed in Club 101 and has over the years provided three of its members to be Directors of the Football Club. It has its own Most Improved Player of the Year Cup, arranges its own away football days and supports the Football Clubs Academy.
