The Salt-Based Water Softener

A salt-based softener employs ion exchange, or ionreplacement, to remove hard minerals from the water. Tobe specific, a salt-based softener replaces calcium andmagnesium ions in the water with sodium ions that areattached to the resin beads before being flushed out of thesystem during the regeneration process.

The Duo-Tank Softener

During regeneration, a salt-based machine cannotproduce soft water. While thisis usually set to happen atnight, it does sometimes affectcleaning and washingactivities around the house. This is especially true if you’rea big family and need a largeamount of water every day.

The Salt-Free Water Softener

The salt-free softener, alsocalled the salt-freedescaler, uses a softeningmedium— polysaccharidebeing one of the mostpopular— to deactivate thescale-forming factors inhard water. This way, itbecomes difficult for sale-causing minerals to lingeron any surface.

The Electronic/Magnetic Descaler

The magnetic descaler (also known as an electronic water softener) is a small device that attaches to your pipe system. As with the salt-free system, it does not remove minerals. Instead, it gathers the minerals and alters their forms to prevent them from sticking onto surfaces.
