Biography

Bill Gates was born on the 28th of

October 1955, in Seattle, state

Washington. His full name is William

Henry Gates III. American entrepreneur,

one of the founders (with Paul Allen)

and the largest shareholder of the

company Microsoft. He is one of the

most influential people in the world.

According to Forbes magazine Gates is

the wealthiest man in the world and has

been in the number 1 position for at least

seven years.

Family

Bill Gates and his two sisters grew up in Seattle.

Their father, William H. Gates II, is a Seattle

attorney. Their late mother, Mary Gates, was a

schoolteacher, University of Washington regent and

chairwoman of United Way International.

Education

Gates received a primary education

in secondary schools of Seattle, but

at age 12, he was transferred to the

private Lakeside School. One year

later, Bill created the first computer

program. He developed computer

programs for local authorities

expected timetables of public

transport.

How it all began

In 1973, Gates entered Harvard University. While at Harvard, Gates

developed a version of the programming language BASIC for the

first microcomputer.

In his junior year, Gates left

Harvard to devote his

energies to Microsoft, a

company he had begun in

1975 with his childhood

friend Paul Allen.

Guided by a belief that the computer would be a valuable tool

on every office desktop and in every home, they began

developing software for personal computers.

The Development of Microsoft

Microsoft went on to capture the world market with the

release by Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. In 1986,

Microsoft has been converted into a public company. That

same year, Bill Gates became a billionaire, then he was 31.

The following year, Microsoft introduced on the market the

first version of Windows.

In 1994, Bill Gates married Melinda

French, Manager, Microsoft, with

whom he had two children - daughter

Jennifer in 1996, and son Rory in

1999.

With the advent of the family, Gates

was more attention paid to charity.
