WHY CANT WE FETCH ENERGY FROM C02 AND OXYGEN?? As we know that the basic form of energy conversion takes place in respiration in which oxygen is converted into carbon- dioxide and vice versa. So why can’t we fetch the energy for the spaceships from these ? C6 H12O6 (1 glucose molecule) + 6 O2 6 CO2 + 6 H2 O + 36 ATP (ENERGY) This conversion of oxygen to co2 releases energy which could be fetched and used. If we device a method to fetch them then it is easy to get energy from ATP molecules. There is a lot of energy stored in the bond between the second and third phosphate groups that can be used to fuel chemical reactions.

WHY CANT WE FETCH ENERGY FROM C02 AND OXYGEN??

As we know that the basic form of energy conversion takes place in respiration in which oxygen

is converted into carbon-dioxide and vice versa. So why can’t we fetch the energy for the

spaceships from these ?

C6 H12O6 (1 glucose molecule) + 6 O2 6 CO2 + 6 H2 O + 36 ATP (ENERGY)

This conversion of oxygen to co2 releases energy which could be fetched and used. If we device

a method to fetch them then it is easy to get energy from ATP molecules. There is a

lot of energy stored in the bond between the second and third phosphate groups that

can be used to fuel chemical reactions.

The structure of ATP has carbon as backbone, just cutting one bond with accompanying

rearrangement could liberate about 7.3 kcal/mol =30.6 kj/mol =0.3176volts. (i.e we could

get 0.3176 volts in breakage of just one bond.)

THE CO2 LIBERATED COULD ALSO BE REUSED:

THE co2 could be left behind as it is space there wont be any harm or else it could be reused and

recycled to give necessary oxygen to the astronaut’s. The light energy can be fetched from

the direct sun rays

6 CO2 + 6 H2 O + Light Energy C6 H12O6 (glucose) + 6 O2

There are many methods in conversion of co2 to oxygen a slight change in them could help us to

fetch the energy .
