How Does Beverages Affect Tooth Decay

Hypothese: I think the Grape soda pop will have the highest pH acidity level and cause the most damage to the teeth(egg shells)

Procedures:1.Get 4 raw white eggs and use a needle to poke 2 holes that are about 0.3 to 1cm wide in diameter on each egg. Make sure that 1 hole is on the top and 1 hole on the bottom of the egg.2.Empty the yolk and the albumen by blowing them out from the holes. Rinse the eggshells.3.Measure1cup of each beverage and pour them in 3 glasses separately. 4.Put 1 eggshell in each glass and soak in the beverages for 4 days.

Variable:Control- I will use the same size egg, jar/cup, and amount of liquids { Grape soda pop, water, and lemonade}

Independent- Different types of beverages with Ph levels

Dependent- The amount of damage done to the eggs(teeth) caused by { Grape soda pop, water,and lemonade}

Conclusion: As I was performing this experiment I did all of the same steps with no revision to the process and all three trails came back the same with no inconclusive results. So this tells me that the acid found in acidic carbonated beverages is high and the beverage will cause teeth erosion if drunk daily. There was some strong correlation with coloration of the beverages. In dark colored beverages the pH level was higher than the lighter color beverage, which is shown between the grape soda and lemonade. The tap water egg was my control variable and the egg pH level and coloration stayed the same with no tooth decay at all. In conclusion, my result were very conclusive and deemed my hypothesis correct saying that the grape soda egg would cause the most tooth decay and have the highest pH level.
