Lab: Jungle Village: Discover the rules of a ‘village’ using questioning
strategies that lead to the natural process of the scientific method.
Writing Activities: Summarize Jungle Village activity in their lab journal.
Demos: Observations in motion (Natural Philosopher vs. Physicist): drop a sheet
of paper vs. book, kick a book across the floor. Use those demonstrations to discuss the evolution of thought on motion from Aristotle to Copernicus and Galileo to Newton.

JUNGLE VILLAGEMaking discoveries

Purpose
To show that… Current science is well established.
It was by no means always this way.
Scientific discoveries come about in many different ways.
Assignment
Make a scientific discovery
Communicate how that discovery was made.
Relate how that discovery parallels scientific discoveries made throughout history.
Researchers
You are exploring the deep, dark jungles of Duloc with two of your scientifical, researcher-type friends when you come across a small village. Being scientists, you want to make contact and investigate this new culture. However, you do not want to offend them and become dinner. Your job is to discover the basic rules of how this society communicates.
Researcher Instructions
Leave the room.
Discuss your strategy with your friends.
Return once you have agreed on a strategy AND you are given the OK!
GET OUT!!!
Villagers (everyone who isn’t a researcher)
You are a peaceful people and wouldn’t hurt a fly.
However, you don’t speak English! …except for yes and no that is!
When meeting new people, your custom is to be polite and follow these rules.

You can only answer a researcher when spoken to directly
You can only answer yes or no.
You can only answer the opposite sex.
