PURPOSE– To Determine
theMaximum wavelength of a given solution using Ultra -violet visible spectrophotometry.
Instruments Required –
chemical Reagent(ISO PROPYL ALCOHAL), Quartz cubet, , milipipette, Spectrophotometer, carrot.
PROCEDURE – Take two quartz cubet and fill it with
isopropyl alcohal then run baseline for isopropyl alochal and set it for zero.
Calculate the wavelength of isopropyl alochal filled in the quartz cubet.
On other hand take a bit of carrot and pulp it in the pharell, after crushing it add 1 ml of isopropyl alochal and then again mix it.
Take the above mixture with the help of milipipette in one of the quartz cubet, then put it into the spectrophotometer
And calculate the wavelength.
DATA – S.no p/v wavelength(n
m)abs
1 663.5 0.023
2 475 0.166
3 448.5 0.19
4 425.5 0.185
5 343 0.594
6 308 0.482
7 251 0.851
8 242 0.854
ANALYSIS Rays of different wavelength are
present in the mixture. But generally we take wavelength from 800 nm upto 200nm.
From 800nm to 400nm the spectrum is visible and from 400nm to 200nm
the wavelength is Ultraviolet.
RESULT:Since the rays of maximum wavelength is present in the spectrum. From the graph get all the peak values for maximum wavelength. For carrot solution in isopropyl alcohal we got 8 maximum wavelengths.
CONCLUSION:Hence we found that the rays of maximum wavelength are present in the given organic solution.
