! App lock. If someone like your mate steals you phone and look at your messages or photos activate the app and it will lock them. For example when your boyfriend goes on your phone, he doesn’t see all your embarrassing photos of you and your best friend pulling faces and wearing no make up.

! Fashion fix. There is an avatar and you can pick the weight and height and you place your face on it then you pick clothes and see what they look like on you then there is a link to the website it is off.

! Food ideas. Say what main ingredient like cod or pasta and then you say what you don’t like or allergies and then you say your price range. Then it gives you some ideas for a meal and the recipe.

! Scrapbook. You can put all of your pictures in a scrap book on your phone or I pad you can add text and edit the photos.

! Music app. Select a genre like pop or rock and then a list comes up with bands and singers that play this type of music. This could help you get a better idea of people that you might like to listen to.

Imagine handing your child a dinner that you thought they might enjoy but they only eat one or two bites of it and you have to throw it away. Being a single parents or students and having to throw food away is hard because money might be tight that month. Or if you invite your friends round your student flat and then they order a take away instead. Do you feel the disappointment? !Now imagine the stress-free moment when you pass your child a meal that they enjoy and eat it all. Or if you create a meal that you and your friends can eat. Then when they think it was ordered, you can be proud and say “Nobody helped me! I made it all by myself” Which position would you rather be in? !Our app is aimed at those busy working people or those that don’t have the necessary cooking skills to create healthy and affordable meals.

Imagine…

Page 5: Esl cooking powerpoint

We think that people should buy our app because it could help make dinner times much easier and save you a lot of stress. If you are a fussy eater or allergic to any food, our app provides recipes that do not contain that ingredient. !This app can help anybody make meals that they can enjoy on their own, with their family or with friends. Dinner Time has a favourite button so if you enjoy the meal, you can save it so it is easy to find inside the app. It could also help to impress people like your parents or children. You could learn new ingredients or cooking skills if you buy this app.

Why Is Our App Good?

Page 6: Esl cooking powerpoint

! Hello we are Emily, Sophie and Lily from team ESL and our app is called Dinner Time. This app is aimed at students at university and parents who have fussy children . The reason why we aimed this at students at uni is because we all know that sometimes they get a bit lazy and they get a take-away or eat fast-food almost everyday, this may be because they don’t have any experience of cooking or they don’t have enough time to cook with all there studying to do. So we have created the app so it could help them because it will have info on the recipes like; how many calories it would have, if it has one of your 5-a-day , how long it could take, how hard it is and much more this will help them though out day to day chores and could help them in the future. !

! This could help them lead a more healthy life style and help them get to a healthy weight instead of being overweight. We have also aimed this at parents with fussy children because as we know children can be very fussy but with our new app we have a function where you can type in types of food that you either don’t like or that you are allergic to and when you type in a food type recipes with the foods that you have put in your ‘allergic or don’t like list’ will not come up so you will not make food with those things in. you can also add and takeaway foods from that list if you feel like it. !

! We know in families people have different preferences of what they like and what they don’t we also know that in families people share an iPad or something so we will have difference profiles that you can make sure that it is the foods YOU don’t like and YOUR personal cook book not your whole families. This might sound like a very complex app and very hard to understand that is why we will have a tutorial to help you when you first get it but not only that, you can see this tutorial at any time just in case you forget how to do something. I hope you like the sound of our app.

Elevator pitch

Page 7: Esl cooking powerpoint

Based on research and after talking to students in the class and other year groups, we learnt the following from our users. On the next couple of slides are the typical profiles we got back ❖ Leo !

❖ A young adult who has been living by himself for 4 months and is 20 years old. ❖ Works in a local shop on weekdays in Stafford ❖ Lives in a small flat in the middle of Stafford town centre ❖ He is a bit of a party animal and like to have a fun time with his mates ❖ He is not very good at cooking ❖ Has a ready meal or take-away almost every other day ❖ Likes to go online to do his grocery shopping ❖ Gets home quite late because of his job. ❖ He wishes there was an app to help him eat better and cook easy, healthy,

quick and cheap meals with out too much hassle.

User profiles 1

Kate !

❖ A single mum with three children. ❖ She works as a teaching assistant in the local primary school. ❖ In a small three bed terrace in Highfields, Stafford. ❖ She struggles with money and feeding her family. ❖ She wishes she could afford nicer and healthier meals for her children. ❖ She wishes there was more apps for android to help her with her problem

because she can not afford a better phone (IPhone.) ❖ She wishes she could make meals that her children will enjoy.

Sarah !

❖ Mum of five and wife who struggles to get the whole family to sit down at the dinner table at the same time with meals they all enjoy.

❖ Makes separate meals for the younger children to her husband and older members of the family.

takeaways more than she hoped. ❖ The family don’t understand how hard she works and she feels that she

wants this to change.

Competitor profileWe found that the market for cooking apps was massive, however, a lot of them didn’t combine the elements of quick and easy meals, combined with those menus that were suitable for people suffering from allergies or were allergic to certain food sources (nuts etc…) neither did they have links to local supermarkets where you could pre-order your ingredients from (which ours does) !What was very obvious was that this was an extremely popular market, but we feel that our added extras such as links to local stores and the allergy component will enable us to stand out from the rest.

Page 11: Esl cooking powerpoint

We feel that our app is more than feasible to create, the mobile app itself will rely on existing technology within most smart phones. The only thing that might require more investigation is the link to the live help, but this is something that the Kindle Fire currently has, so we know that it is possible to do. The app itself will have the following content

!! We will include a search button for easy navigation. ! We will have a scrapbook so you can keep all the recipes you want safe. This will help you

find the recipes that you like (storage of recipes and favourites) ! We will have more than one profile for the user. For example if Helen had different tastes

to Sophie, she could create her own cookbook and have her own preferences. Then if Abbie wanted a different area to store her favourite recipes, she could by clicking on the folder with her name on (the ability to switch user profiles via usernames and passwords)

! A tutorial guide that will include videos of Tim. We are doing this because he is our ‘tutorial man’ also known as the help button. The reason why we are doing our help button this way because we feel that it makes the user feel like our app is aimed directly at them (live video link).

! A link to local shops where ingredients can be brought (use of GPS)

What will we include?

Page 13: Esl cooking powerpoint

The three key features of our app will be: !❖ Search bar so the user can type in desserts for example and it would

narrow the recipes down and links to local supermarkets or stores. ❖ Wide range of recipes that are regularly updated so that people don’t get

tired of making the same thing (unless they want to) and they can try out new ingredients.

❖ You can add your own recipes to the cookbook to help other people in your situation feel like they have found a recipes that they can use on their family as well.

Business CaseBased on feedback (surveys and interviews with users) we found that our users would be willing to pay a small amount to use the app (initially 69p) but they would be willing to pay more for certain recipes. !Therefore we decided that we would go down the road of benefitting parties and user payment. This is because we wanted to keep the cost of the app down and also felt that local business would be willing to pay in order to have their shops on the app (so that people can buy the ingredients from them) !The parties that we feel would be willing to pay would be: !Local and large shops Local government groups (healthy eating campaigns etc..) Local restaurants (promoting their own recipes) !

Page 16: Esl cooking powerpoint

Our three core marketing activities would be as follows: !1. Promote the app within local shops and restaurants, this would be done via

websites and also adverts/flyers. We feel that this would enable us to reach our target audience in a very quick and cheap way.

!2. Use of social media. We would consider creating a facebook page to promote our app (the app would also be linked to Facebook and the face books of local shops and restaurants). !3. Link together with healthy eating campaigns to promote the app in a positive way
