4 Simple Steps to Having a Great Day It's very easy to get caught up in the negativity of people around you, but if you can implement these four little steps, you'll find yourself having a great day that will rub off on those around you. Try these techniques to bring you joy throughout your day: 1. Wake up with a smile on your face. How many of us wake up and groan at the thought of

the day ahead? Tomorrow morning try doing something a little different. Set your alarm five minutes earlier than normal. As you wake up, luxuriate in the warmth and softness of your bed. Smile to yourself to set your inner mood. Before you get out of bed, think of five things you're grateful for.

2. Treat your chores as opportunities. If your day seems to be an endless round of cleaning,

cooking, shopping, and picking up the kids after school, escape the perceived drudgery and take advantage of the opportunity each one of these chores can give you.

When you're cleaning the house, play some loud party music and dance as you go - you'll

get more exercise and have some fun while cleaning.

Ask the children to help you prepare meals. You'll enjoy quality time with them and teach them something at the same time.

When you're shopping, have a friendly smile on your face. Avoid rushing around and take the time to thank the checkout operator for her time - she likes to feel appreciated

too.

Talk with your children. When you pick up your children from school, ask them about their day. They'll have so much to share with you if you give them a little time to do it. And listen to their answers - they know when you're not paying attention.

3. Use the STOP sign. Anytime you feel yourself getting upset, anxious, or angry with people

as you go through your day, flash a bright red or purple stop sign in your head. Take that moment to take a deep breath, center yourself, and then carry on with your conversation. You'll feel a lot less agitated and both parties will benefit.

4. Be nice. This last step is so simple, yet so many people are just too busy to put it into place.

Being nice is as easy as smiling at the cabbie or the bus driver in the morning, saying "hello" to the person you buy your coffee from, or using the words "thank you" at least a half a dozen times a day. If you take action to be nice, friendly, and caring, then your day will be so much better

than if you run around feeling sorry for yourself, angry or upset. None of these tips will cost you anything in terms of money or time. It's easier on your face if you smile rather than frown; it's easier to get through a day feeling contented and happy. And if you share your happy mood, just imagine what a wonderful gift that can be for those around you! It has been said that, "Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect. It means that you've decided to look beyond the imperfections." If you start your day preparing to have a good one, your day will blossom just as you do. The bonus is that your smile will remind at least one person you come across in your day that they can take the time to smile too.

Personal Reflection Exercises...Courage launches me above my fears.

Courage launches me above my fears.

Fear is a natural and healthy feelingnecessary to survive. Instead ofbuckling in the face of fear, I use itto stir my courage. Fear makes itpossible for me to experience a degree ofbravery stored inside of me.

Courage is the presence of action in themidst of fear. My courage takes me abovemy fears and into a place where dreamscome true. Because of courage, myheart is exploding with daring hope.

I revoke the power of fear in my life, which tries to control my actions. Withfaith lighting the way, I take risks beyondanything I have done before. I shake offtimidity due to a lack of confidence andreplace it with valor.

I have the audacity to dream outsideof the limits set on myself fromchildhood. I refuse to believe negativewords spoken about me as a child. Ichoose to believe my Creator has a greaterpurpose for my life.

I seek to know my purpose with a heartwilling to do what it takes to see mydestiny fulfilled. By clothing myself incomforting peace, I stand up to the fearsthat immobilized me in the past. When Ifeel afraid, I pray, placing my trust on ahigher power.

I come to terms with rejection and failurebecause sometimes they are the result oftaking a risk. I accept that rejection andfailure could be my greatest teachers. Bylooking at every outcome in a positiveway, I learn and become moreexperienced.

Today, I choose to stand up to fear andallow courage to drive my actions. Ilaunch myself into action reaching farabove the threshold of fear.

Personal Reflection Exercises...I alter the course of my life by changing

the way I think.

I alter the course of my life bychanging the way I think.

I am in charge of my destiny. It is up to meto arrive at my desired destination. Thechoices and attitudes I display todayare shaping the future ahead of me.Success is mine because I only allow mymind to envision triumph.

My actions are like seeds planted in theground; if I want to reap a harvest ofblessing, I must sow accordingly. In mypast, I may have sown negative seeds, butI choose to weed out my garden and startfresh.

At times, life sends unexpected challengesmy way, but I have the ability to turnthose challenges into opportunities. Itrain my mind to think of dead endsas new beginnings.

I refuse to take on the negative imageothers try to put on me. Instead ofthinking of myself as inadequate, I seemyself as someone who is creative and fullof passion. Instead of giving up on mydreams, I find new ways to make themhappen.

Daily, I reflect upon my life and ask myselfif my actions are yielding the results Iwant. Through honest soul searching, I amable to identify the true feelings of myheart. Only when I am honest withmyself about how I feel can I enactchange within me.

I filter my thoughts because the greatestpredictor of my future is the current stateof my thoughts. A positive mindset takesme to the place of success. I remainpositive because negativity destroysdreams.

Today, I choose to align my thoughts withthe picture of the future I hope for. WhereI find fear, I pray for courage. In the placeof bitterness, I seek joy. I trade selfishnessfor compassion.

Self-Reflection Questions:

1. Is my attitude hindering me fromsuccess?

2. Why do I need to makeover mythoughts?
