How does the procedure work?

§  To determine if you are a candidate for teeth whitening, your dentist will examine the health of your teeth and gums, the color of your teeth and look for any potential roadblocks that may affect the outcome of the whitening results such as the presence of visible bondings or crowns on your front teeth that will not lighten during the whitening procedure. If there are stains, plaque or tartar on your teeth, you may be required to have a professional teeth cleaning prior to your whitening treatment. If there are extremely large cavities present, you may be required to repair them first before cosmetically enhancing your smile with teeth whitening to avoid complications.

§  To begin the procedure, your dentist will take “before” photos that will be used to later compare the initial color of your teeth to the final color after whitening.

§  Next, your dentist will begin protecting your cheeks, lips and gums with barrier materials so that only your teeth are exposed.

§  The ZOOM! peroxide teeth whitening gel is applied directly to the teeth and activated by the ZOOM! whitening lamp.

§  The gel is applied to the teeth 4 times for 15 minutes each session to total 1 hour. While you relax each 15 minute session, many dentists even let you view a movie on a monitor, or listen to music on headsets. In the meantime, the peroxide teeth whitening gel is foaming and working in the layer below the tooth’s enamel to get them their whitest.
