Maintaining Your Berber Carpet
Once you have carpet placed down, you
will want to keep it maintained to
preserve the life of it. If you do not
properly maintain your Berber carpet,
you will find yourself replacing it sooner
than you expected. Berber carpet is great
in any home, but it can be a little harder
to clean than other carpets.

Fibers in Berber carpet may be made from nylon or they may be made up of olefin.
• The olefin fibers will attract any oils from your skin and these oils get trapped in
the carpet fibers leaving them discolored.
• Nylon does not tend to hold on to the oils of the skin the same way.

Oils on shoes can destroy your new carpet. It is
important that stepping on the carpet with shoes be
avoided as much as possible.

Spills can and will happen. Here are several steps to remove
something that spilled on your Berber carpet:
• Baking soda
• cover the spill in baking soda
• allow it to sit for 30 seconds
• Vacuum up the baking soda
• continue to repeat the process until the stain is
gone.
• Or, simply mix together some water and vinegar and
place it on the stain. Allow it to sit for about 30 seconds
and blot up.

Maintaining Your Berber Carpet
One of the worst things you can do to your Berber carpet is vacuum
it with a rotating brush. It will snag your carpet fibers or even rip it
out. So, it is advisable to use a brush with a higher suction power
and no rotating brushes.

Choosing the right type of vacuum, cleaning up stains as they happen, and
enforcing a no shoes rule will ensure that your Berber carpet lasts a long
time.
