People may grow plants as a hobby or for commercial purposes. Hydroponics is also a popular
method of cultivation of flowering plants and plants that yield fruits and vegetables. In controlled
conditions such plants grow better, faster and give better yields free of pests and diseases.
However, what happens in indoor environments or when a shed is covered is that plants do not
receive sufficient sunlight, so necessary for growth.
Most growers supplement natural light with artificial light. Growers commonly use low sodium
vapor pressure lights with high lumen output, mercury halide lamps and even halogen lamps for
lighting. These lights consume high power and growers must install lamps with sufficient lumen

Mercury lights have maximum light output in the blue-green spectrum and lack in red making
them inefficient.
