The Problem

25% of the population over 50 years of age and growing.

Increased life expectancy and population boom will lead to a need for more aid for elderly care.

With increased age there is a higher chance of injury with more disability.

Current generation X/Y have mobile devices but the elderly are tech illiterate.

Current elderly panic buttons only link to the elderly's home phone.

No multi-purpose mobility devices on the market.

2

The solution

A Multi-purpose mobility deviceConcept is that it is both a walking stick and a device to pick things up.

This Cane will have an emergency button (like the ones worn by elderly) which will also serve as a tracker, in the case a person may have an accident and can immediately ping their location to emergency contacts.

We as a collective team discussed various websites and found the quickest approach to getting funds was 'Go Fund Me'.

The Cane Enabled 'Go Fund Me' page was set up with goal of covering the cost for the cane as most of the electronic "enabled" side of things was already covered and provided for.

Market testing planBuild Prototype in 1 week by 11/6/16.

Visit Aged Care Facility for testing 20/6/16..24/6/16

Complete Survey Monkey with residents.

Use Feedback to adapt product.

Once the prototype for the physical cane is functional, various elderly and disabled people will be asked and offered an opportunity to test the product and give both positive and negative feedback. This will provide insight into what the target audience is looking for and adapt the product to what the majority of targeted consumers are after. This will take place over the next week or two.
