What is distribution?Distribution is the process of making a movie available for viewing by an audience. This is normally the task of a professional film distributer, who would determine the marketing strategy for the film, the media by which a film is to be exhibited or made available for viewing, and who may set the release date and other matters. We produced a psychological thriller, and compared to most of the films that are highly distributed in current times, we might struggle as comedies are more prominently advertised and marketed. Although these distributing companies have mainly distributed mainly comedies recently, but companies like ‘New Line Cinema’ have distributed films like ‘Se7en’ which is more like our film as it’s a psychological thriller. We believe Warner Bros would also be interested in our film as they have distributed films like “I Am Legend”, which is a close modern representation of our film.

Where we want our film• Our film will have a wide appeal across Europe and the united states because our film targets

teens with the same sort of problems in a first world country. We feel as if we will get a larger amount of viewers in these countries because the film can relate to their lifestyle.

• To be able to release this film in these countries, we will need large marketing options due to the huge amount of film makers trying to get their films out into cinemas.

• Strategies such as ‘product placement’ and ‘market mapping’ may be useful to the production of our film because these two methods of marketing are used especially with the targeting of certain groups.

• Also, to attract viewers, we would release our film where we think the film will be enjoyed the most first. This will allow people who have seen the film to ‘self advertise’ on social media, Resulting in other places seeing these posts on social media. Hopefully the reviews will be good which will encourage other people to see the film when it comes out in their country.

Pros and Cons of Self Distribution• Although self distribution can leave your company with a huge amount of profit, whilst

cutting out the middle man of the films production, self distribution can also be a huge risk to your film. For example, your film could have a very low number of viewings with little or no cash return, resulting in a loss of money when comparing how much you have made, to how much making the film actually cost.

• But on the other hand, there is a low production cost which will give you more freedom with marketing and advertisement, and there there would be no risk of losing any money. The only risk would be not gaining enough money.
