Buying a “good” franchise in Texas could mean a number of things. It could mean investing in franchisesmake the most money or the ones are the most popular. Oftentimes, however when a prospectivefranchisee asks about a good franchises – they really mean the “good” ones. That is to say, ethicalfranchises that are upfront about their business models and don’t try to “fool” potential franchisees intosigning a contract that is unsuitable for them.

But if you’re new to franchising, how do you know what the good franchises to buy in Texas are? Hereare three tips to help you choose the right one.

1. Look for franchises that are members of franchise trade associations

Just like professionals such as lawyers and accountants belong to associations and governing bodies thatlay out best practices and regulations, there are also associations for franchisors such as theInternational Franchise Association which monitor business practices to ensure they are ethical.

2. Find out what franchisees are saying about the franchise

If you really want to find out what it’s like to work with a particular franchise, there is no better sourcethan other franchisees within that franchise.

To get the opinions of other franchisees, you will likely have to contact them directly to determinewhether the business that you are considering is a good franchise to buy in Texas. how much support they receive etc. Remember, they were once in the same position that you are now,and most will be happy to provide advice.

3. Only sign an agreement that fully explains the responsibilities of both the franchisee and thefranchisor.

When you review your franchise contract, you can expect it to be somewhat complicated as there are anumber of complex legal matters that are involved. It’s always a good idea to have a lawyer whospecializes in franchises to review the agreement before you sign it.

Be wary of any claim or guarantees that a franchisor might make about your earnings. While it may bepossible to make projections, a franchisor can never guarantee earnings – and in fact, it would be illegalfor them to do so.

If any part of the agreement is unclear, or if you don’t understand them, make sure you get your lawyerto explain them to you before you sign. Also, if there seems to be anything missing in the contract, makesure you ask about this as well.

While the franchisor will understandably want to make the sale at this point and get you started inrunning your franchise, you should never at any point feel like you are being put under undue pressureto sign the contract. If you’re feeling pushed to sign an, agreement you should take this as a red flag.

Finding good franchises to buy in Texas does require a bit of homework, but it is well worth the effortwhen you can feel comfortable that you are working with an ethical franchise.
