Bangalore police is the first police force to enter social media and use it
as a medium to fight crime , hence living up to the Indian Silicon Valley’s
tech reputation. They started using Social Media intensively when the
tech-savvy MN Reddi was assigned as Commissioner of Police,
Bangalore.
Their main objective to enter social media was to overcome the trust
barrier between the police and public. Also, it helps to overcome the
reliance of general public on TV News channels to keep track of the
actions taken by police.
With the help of Social Media(Twitter and Facebook), Bangalore Police
has made a large army of citizens , helping them eradicate crime
quickly and effectively.
This model can be and should be taken up by Police forces across cities
to fight crime and address public issues.
