MOTIFS

The aspects of this film being a horror

film is that people die to demons and

also there are bloody murders and etc.

This film’s primary genre is supposed to

be a horror and they included all the

aspects of psychological thriller by using

demons and a doll which involves

paranormal activities. These

characteristics are commonly used in

other films of this genre as the Mia is the

only one who experiences these events

and makes her sound crazy when she

tells other people (used in other films).

AIM

A pigtailed doll possessed by a demon

threatens a young couple with a new born

baby. Annabelle is based on a true event as

the Annabelle doll already exist in real life

and is a spin off on the film ‘the conjuring’.

Their aim is to re-create the supposed events

that happened in real life but over

exaggerate it for entertainment value. Also

they put a plot with in the film to enhance

the physiological

FINAL GIRLThe final girl in this film is identified as being innocent and

weak. However she manages not to be killed throughout the

film. Whilst all these crazy events are happening to her, her

husband is never their to witness these events or anyone

else. People see her as crazy as she is the only person to

witness these paranormal activities that are occurring. The

fact that she is also pregnant makes her even more

venerable but typically in these types of films she surprisingly

lives. Annabelle Wallis plays Mia (final girl) is

Presented as being very venerable and

also very attractive to also express her

vulnerability as she is being objectified as

being a typical house wife, with the

husband going out to work.

PSYCHOLOGICAL

The film has aspects of a psychological film

as well as a horror. This is because the films

messes with your mind and especially Mia’s.

She is antagonised through out the whole

film through the use of the doll. Her mind is

severely messed, as the demons constantly

bully her when she is all alone as she is

supposed to offer up a soul. Also there are

scenes where the demons appear and

disappear which messes with Mia’s mind as

well as the audiences.

Page 7: Annabelle

HORROR

Annabelle is typical horror film as it incudes

the aspects of paranormal activity, murder,

and torture. Mia is mentally tortured through

out the film. Her neighbours at the start of the

film die a bloody death which is the first event

of this horror film. Also Mia and her husband

were subject to many attacks of the demon

but the husband was only involved in the first

incident. The priest was also attacked to

increase the horror aspect of the film giving

the audience a fright factor.

POV

In This is because the film is designed to

scare Annabelle the point of view shot is not

used very often compared to other films of

its genre. The point of view shot is used in the

perspective of Mia and not the antagonist

which is unusually because normally horror

films implement a point of view shot, in the

perspective of the antagonist. However

using the POV in the perspective of Mia

makes the film scarier as you do not know

whether a demon is doing to try and attack

which makes it that much scarier when they

do.
