Part Two

Zombie Landhttp://www.artofthetitle.com/title/zombieland/

The opening starts with a two minute intro showing some of the “rules” that are explained later in the film. The intro ends with “fasten your seatbelts its going to be a bumpy ride” and then fades to black. The actual opening credits open with a long shot of a man falling in slow motion with the production company in big red letters below him. He slowly falls and then collides with the credits which move as he touches him like they are actually there and he's able to interact with it although traditionally the actors cannot see the credits in an opening sequence. There is then a mid shot of a zombie that is vomiting in slow motion over what appears to be a busy freeway of people leaving the city. The next shot is a slow motion long shot of a zombie chasing a person. I like that her milk shake is suspending in mid air it makes the slow motion more effective and interesting to look at. There is then another long shot of a conspiracy theorist that has a piece of cardboard round his neck saying “The end is near” this insinuates that he already knew that the apocalypse was coming and he is seen getting eaten by a zombie this is trying to show that no one is safe. There is then a fade into the next shot of a car on fire and a business man being chased by two zombies, there is a big bag of money above him, This is showing to the audience that money is now meaning less as obviously he doesn’t care for the money anymore. After another shot there is the setting of a wedding where the bride is a zombie trying to eat the groom, this has been done by the director as a large population of the country has been to a wedding or has gotten married, this shot has been done so that the viewers can relate to it and put themselves in the situation that they are in. The title comes up in the next shot on a windscreen a man that is in a hurry then smashes through the title with a crowbar scattering all of the lettering in slow motion as it reacts to the crowbar the same way the glass does. I like the use of slow-motion in this opening sequence if I do put it in my own opening sequence I would only use it once.

• Whole sequence contains many extreme close-ups, and just normal close ups, I believe that this is so that you cannot see the character that is in the sequence

• The music of the opening sequence is very eerie it sets the tone and the theme of the sequence straight away for the audience.

• The credits in the sequence only come up when it fades to black and then appears in bright white writing, the writing appears to be fragmented and disoriented when its on the screen, when the title comes up it starts off small and then jumps to the front of the screen and then retreats back to its original position. This could have been done to make the audience feel on edge like something is not right.

• The images that come onto the screen seem to fade into each other so that you see two different clips at the same time. This is to convey the effect of disorientation to go with the fragmented and corrupt theme.

• There are multiple ways the opening sequence suggests that this person is the enemy or the person of interest in the film, for a brief few seconds you can see him cut the word God out of a dollar bill suggesting that he is something that is unholy or devilish.

• The sequence ends very abruptly with the music stopping and it cutting to black very quickly, there are some white specks and white writing at the end which suggests that the sequence was displayed from film as I have seen it before in the cinema.

Panic Roomhttp://www.artofthetitle.com/title/panic-room/

• Sequence mainly contains establishing wide shots to show to the viewer that the film is set in the city.

• The opening sequence is very simplistic which shows to the audience what tone the rest of the film is going to be, which is very dramatic due to the use of the orchestra making the opening very grand and formal.

• The music makes the establishing wide shots look very serious and intimidating . When the title of the film appears the music intensify and becomes louder. As the opening sequence comes to a close the music become faster to get the viewers on the edge of their seats for when the film starts.

• The font and concrete colour of the credits resemble the buildings and the falseness of the “concrete jungle” and looks very corporate.

• The colour of the opening sequence is very bland there aren't many vibrant colours or anything that stands out except the giant silver letters.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoohttp://www.artofthetitle.com/title/the-girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo/

• The opening sequence for this film contains very close camera shots like: extreme close ups, close ups, and mid shots. There are no shots really that are as far away as a long shot as it gets the audience more involved with the sequence as they want the audience to be engaged for the rest of the film

• The shots are also very short in length only lasting for a couple seconds, they are also synchronised with the drums in the backing soundtrack. This gives the opening sequence more of a structure to it and makes it seem less random.

• The only colours in this sequence are black and white, this could reflect the main characters attitude later on in the film.

• The black liquid in the opening sequence seems to consume everything it touches even the title of the film. The liquid is obviously of some significance and a hint to what happens later in the film.

• The black liquid closely resembles oil, because of its viscosity and also the fact that the people that are covered in the liquid can easily be set on fire which is demonstrated in the sequence.

• In the sequence there is an appearance of wires like usb cables and also phone chargers ect. This is to represent the hacker that comes into play later in the film, there is also a woman with a tattoo of a dragon on her back which in the sequence actually comes out of her body and comes to life as it can be seen roaring after it comes out.

• The music for the sequence “immigrant song” by led zeppelin but sung by a woman is perfect for the sequence as it is quite intense and matches perfectly to the violence and the general crazy nature of the sequence.

Catch me if you canhttp://www.artofthetitle.com/title/catch-me-if-you-can/

• The animated opening sequence starts in an airport you can distinguish this from the abundance of planes in the background there is an obvious main character as it is the first character on screen as well as the camera always focusing on said same character. A second main character is also evident with the same detective like person keep appearing.

• When the title appears the “me” in “catch me if you can” is made out of clouds and when a plane goes past it disappears, this is used to resemble the character that is trying to flee from the other character as it is a statement from the character.

• When in the cars the characters are in coloured cars so that they stand out from the rest of the cars as they are grey. This helps the audience keep track of the characters.

• The sequence uses colour to change location eg: Yellow is used for when they are in a tropical holiday resort which is clearly indicated by alcoholic drinks and swimming pools, Green is then used for a hospital theme along with nurses and doctors, red and yellow is then used for the business/production company, pink is then used for a formal party along with men in suits and the women in dresses and then finally blue for the airport. The director has done this so that the audience can see that there has been a location change.

• We could use this in our sequence if we were going to have an animated scene but it is not likely as we do not have the software.
