DESCRIPTION
Hello my name is Matthew Brice, 33 yr old. I am from Australia. I started my journey on 14th Nov in Goa I then traveled south following the coastal route through Karnataka, Kerala then into Tamil Nadu. First visiting Kanniyakamuri then following the east coast road I have visited Trichendur, Tuticorin, Sayalgudi, Ramanathapuram, Rameshwaram, Pattukkottai, Pondicherry and Alampoondi village a total of over 1,800km. The support and hospitality, which I have received in Tamil Nadu, has been overwhelming and so inspiring. From Mahabalipuram I will continue to travel north to, Chennai, Kolkata then I will finish my journey in Varanasi a total of 4,300km. The purpose of my journey is to give the underprivileged people of India the chance of a better life and to create awareness about the problems of poverty and exploitation of children in slum communities in India. To do this I have joined with Lakshya Aakriti Foundation (LAF), based in Delhi. As our focus is education and hope to give all children in India the opportunity to gain an education we are seeking donations and volunteers in this journey to support project H.E.L.P.Moreover, to initiate a new self-sustainable project in your suburb. During my travels I hope to inspire people to help and care for the poor in their daily lives. I would like to encourage people to register as a volunteer via my website www.cycleforbrighterfutures.com, which will help Lakshya aakriti Foundation to make its mission possible. I also hope to inspire people to follow my example and GO-GREEN; Here I would like you to participate in our Campaign. Man on a MissionCycle for Brighter Futures started rolling in 2012 when Matthew Brice, an Australian national first experienced the lack of education and wrath of poverty in India during a gruelling 4,000km cross country cycle.
It was during this life changing journey that Matt came across the work of the Australian Children’s charity Forget Me Not and vowed to do what he could to make a real and lasting change in the lives of some of India’s neediest children.
This time the story is bigger, brighter and better! On November 14th, Matt
has commenced a mammoth 4,300km cycle over 6 months with a fresh set of equipment and a renewed mission - to establish the Brighter Futures Study Centre in Delhi and abolish illiteracy in one of North India’s most poverty stricken slum communities.
His grueling cycling journey has been departed from Anjuna Beach in Goa to the Southern tip of India and up the East coast via Kolkata, finishing in Varanasi in
April 2014.

A Green Note from Matt“I completed my studies in Environmental Science majoring in Biology and
Physical Geography. I have always been focused on the importance of protecting the Environment, even as a child.
Living in Sydney, Australia I always used a cycle as my means of transport. Not only is it the quickest and most efficient way to get around, but
travelling on a cycle removes one car from the street, cutting down on my own personal carbon footprint and traveling green.
I come to India on my cycle with a similar motivation - to travel green, reduce my carbon footprint and inspire others to do the same.
I also have a strong desire to live my life plastic free. In Australia I always bring my own bags for shopping, buy food in bulk and even make my own
toothpaste to avoid the plastic packaging.
I will be traveling in India for 7 months = 230 days x 3 1L bottles per day = 690 plastic bottles thrown away!
Solution - I will be using a carbon and glass micro filter to filter tap water to remove bacteria and protozoa, then treat the water with a UV sterilization
pen to destroy any viruses.
These two small steps will allow me to reduce my impact on the environment whilst traveling in India, helping to make my journey a little greener.”
