ASHOK DOSHI
Mumbai: Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh Friday
inaugurated the state-of-the-
art Terminal 2 or T2 at
Chhatrapati Shivaji
International Airport in
Mumbai. “This terminal is
expected to establish new
global benchmarks of
functional efficiency and
operational safety... This
terminal will make us feel
proud,” Dr Singh said,
dedicating the new terminal to
the nation. “We are working
hard to make this airport a
world-class facility. Our efforts
have met with success.
Ratings have improved
considerably in recent years,”
the PM said.
The actual operations at
the terminal are likely to
commence from February. The
spanking four-storey glass
marvel, whose design has
been inspired by a dancing
peacock, has come up at a
whopping investment of Rs.
9,800 crore as against initial
projection of Rs. 7,452 crore.
The terminal boasts of
tens of thousands of artifacts
and paintings, housing
arguably one the largest
collections in the world at an
airport. The most attractive
feature of the swanky terminal
is the museum of artifacts.
Stretching along a 3-km art
wall, the museum houses over
7,000 artifacts collected from
over 1,500 artists across the
country. Spread over an area
of a little over 4.39 lakh square
metres, the T2 has been
designed to cater to an
estimated 40 million
passengers annually. One of
the country’s busiest airports
currently caters 32 million
passengers a year. Under the
privatisation policy of the
UPA-I government, the Delhi
and Mumbai airports were
given to private parties for
modernisation in 2006. While
a GVK-led consortium bagged
the contract for Mumbai
airport, the Delhi airport went
to a GMR-led entity. Even after
privatisation, the state-run
Airports Authority of India
holds 26 per cent stake each in
these two airports. The state-
of-the-art T2 will be larger than
Singapore’s Changi T3 (3.80
lakh sqm) and London’s
Heathrow T5 (3.53 lakh sqm).
It will be able to accommodate
9,900 passengers during peak
hours. It has a 7-lakh sq ft area
of retail space, lounges and
travel services. The Rs. 12,500-
crore modernisation and
development work of the
Mumbai airport actually began
in 2008 and was scheduled to
be completed in 2010. Of the
four-level terminal, level 1 will
be used for ground
transportation and 2 for
arrivals. Level 3 will have
domestic security and retail
space, while level 4 is meant for
common international and
domestic check-ins,
international security and retail.
As far as facilities are concerned,
the terminal will have 188 check-
in counters, 60 immigration sites
for departing passengers and 76
immigration counters for
incoming fliers. Also,
passengers will have access to
47 escalators and 73 elevators.
The facilities also include 52
boarding gates, around 11,000
seats, 101 toilets, 44 travelators,
16 lounges, and 10 baggage
carrousels, among others.

ILLEGAL MINING IN ODISHATop firms such as SAIL, Tata Steel, Aditya Birla group's Essel Mining
and Odisha Mining Corp are among 70 firms that have violated environment
and forest laws, the Justice M B Shah Commission on illegal mining in
Odisha has held. Top firms such as SAIL, Tata Steel, Aditya Birla group's
Essel Mining and Odisha Mining Corp are among 70 firms that have violated
environment and forest laws, the Justice M B Shah Commission on illegal
mining in Odisha has held.
Large scale violation of environment and forest laws have taken place
in Odisa since 1994-95 and most of the mining lease holders violated them
in some form or other, it said.
The Commission has estimated that iron ore worth over Rs 45,453 crore
and manganese worth over Rs 3,089 crore have been extracted by miners
"illegally and without lawful authority" by violating conditions of
Environment Clearance (EC) alone.
It further said that the value of illegal production will increase
considerably if other factors including consent to operate, production
without mining plan/scheme are considered.
Out of the 192 mining leases of iron and manganese ores in the state, 94
do not have EC. Of the 94 mines, which do not have EC, 78 extracted iron
and manganese ores between 1994-95 and 2011-12, worth several thousand
crores.
Moreover, 96 leases obtained delayed EC approval and carried out
mining during the period.
"Totally 130 lessees are/were noted of doing production without lawful
authority of iron and manganese ores (which includes 109 leases running
under deemed extension also) in violation of EIA notification, 1994 and
2006," it said.
The market value for iron and manganese ores is required to be
recovered under the provisions of Section 21(5) of the MM(DR) Act, 1957."
SAIL's Bolani and Barsua iron ore mines; Tata Steel's 7 mines -- Joda East,
Joda West, Manmora, Guruda-Tiring Pahar, Malda, Khandbandh and
Bamebari; Jindal Steel and Power's TRB mines and Adhunik Metaliks'
Kulum mine are among the list of 96 firms that obtained delayed EC while
carried out production. Essel Mining and Industries' Unchabali mine is
among the list of 94 mines which did not have EC but carried out iron ore
extraction. Its 3 other mines -- Kasia, Jilling-Longalota and Koira are in the
list of obtaining delayed EC approval.
The Odisha government-owned Odisha Mining Corporation's (OMC)
8 mines are also in the list of 94 mines, which did not have EC approval.
Of this, 2 mines -- Sakradihi and Balda-Palsa-Jajang carried out extraction
without EC. Moreover, OMC obtained delayed EC approval for 14 of its
mines and most of them carried out mining during the period.
Orissa Mineral Development Corporation (now part of Rashtriya Ispat
Nigam), Rungta Mines Group, BPMEL, Kalinga Mining Corporation, Sarda
Mines, Tarini Minerals, B D Patnaik, Aryan Mining and Trading
Corporation Pvt Ltd are also on the list of violating or not taking approvals.
Other big miners in the state that are on the list for violating norms
include Indrani Patnaik, Serajuddin & Co, R P Sao, Patnaik Minerals and S
N Mohanty. "The permission granted so far for the extraction of 154.263
million tonnes by IBM and MoEF, if taken into consideration and achieved,
then the reserve would last only for 30 years in the state for good quality
ore," it said. Talking about violation of Forest Conservation Act, 1980 and
guidelines issued by the Supreme Court, the Commission said that out of
192 mining leases, 176 are in dense forest.
Ministry of Environment and Forest has not given approval to 98 leases
for diversion of forest area and 47 mines, out of 98, are/were operating
without forest clearance (FC), it said. The Commission has recommended
recovering market price from the mines, which are/were operating without
obtaining FC. "There is gross misuse of deemed refusal and deemed
extension of both the provision of renewal of leases. This casual and
negative approach has caused dearly to State exchequer in the form of
hundreds of crores of stamp duty and others," it said.
In all, 147 cases, renewal applications have not been decided. Of this,
in 86 cases, the delays have been between 5-20 years, it said, adding that
"the sufferer is the government and such long delay breads corruption at
all level". Talking about casual attitude of MoEF officials, it said that in 16
leases, where the forest area was involved, EC was granted without forest
clearance. Moreover, in 56 mining leases, EC was granted without stipulating
any condition for wildlife. Of 98 leases, 31 are adjacent to the elephant
corridor in Sundergadh and Keonjhar districts and due to mining, there
has been "vast destruction of standing corps, huts and human habitat by
elephants", the Commission said.

New Delhi
(GOODDAY NEWS
NETWORK) The Arvind
Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi
Party (AAP) on Friday
launched a massive all-In-
dia recruitment drive for
which the party has de-
cided to waive off its Rs 10
membership fee.
Speaking to reporters
during the launch of his
party's free membership
drive, Chief Minister
Arvind Kejriwal said, "The
Aam Aadmi Party has
launched a free member-
ship drive today. We intend
to make nearly 1 crore
members till January 26."
Kejriwal told reporters
that any Indian citizen can
become a member of the
AAP but only those who
are given important respon-
sibilities and positions in the
party will undergo an in-
tense scrutiny.
"You can text your de-
tails or give a missed call
on 07798220033 to be-
come a member of AAP,"
Kejriwal said.
Kejriwal also confirmed
that few more well known
personalities, including
journalist Ashutosh, are
joining the party soon.
"Yes Ashutosh is joining
AAP in a couple days most
probably,"Kejriwal said.
The Chief Minister,
however, once again re-
fused to accept any secu-
rity by saying there is no
threat to his life.
"I am safe, there is no
threat," Kejriwal said when
quizzed over the Z Plus se-
curity being offered to him
by the UP Police.
The membership cam-
paign named as 'Mein Bhi
Aam Aadmi' will continue
till January 26. AAP leader
Gopal Rai will lead the
membership campaign.
A decision to this effect
was taken during the two-
day long national executive
meet in the capital, during
which the party leaders sug-
gested that AAP should
contest Lok Sabha and
polls and appeared confi-
dent that the pary ould do
well. After the national ex-
ecutive meet, the party an-
nounced that it will contest
the next Lok Sabha polls
on 300 seats and field its
candidates from all major
states.
Importantly, the party
also said that it will field
candidates from all seven
Lok Sabha seats in Delhi.
After Delhi, Haryana
will likely be the party's next
battle ground. Party
spokesperson Yogendra
Yadav had announced that
other than all 10 Lok
Sabha seats, the party
would also contest all 90
seats in the assembly elec-
tions to be held later this
year, even if they were to
clash with the national elec-
tions. In view of the up-
coming Lok Sabha polls,
the party said that its elec-
tion manifesto will be ready
by March. The party also
asserted that there will be
no let-up in its campaign
against corruption but
sought time to set up a sys-
tem to tackle it.
The debutant political
party would contest the
"maximum number of Lok
Sabha seats, but the num-
ber of seats has not been
finalised yet", senior party
leader Yogendra Yadav
told reporters. "We want
people not just to join the
AAP, but also do something
for the country," he said. An
AAP spokesperson said,
"After the Delhi elections,
we have seen an upsurge.
We are launching a dona-
tion drive and a campaign
as we want to tap this new
upsurge to fight the VIP
culture and corruption".
Yogendra Yadav said, "A
three-member National
Campaign Coordination
Committee will look into
the party's manifesto, fund-
raising and other poll-re-
lated issues. People can
apply for candidature for
the Lok Sabha polls till Jan
15, and the applications will
then be screened at the
state level". "The first list
of candidates should be out
by Jan 15-20," he said.
Announcing its national
ambitions, the AAP had
recently announced it will
contest the "maximum
number of seats" in the
April-May Lok Sabha polls
and most of its candidates
were expected to be de-
clared by February-end.
However, the Delhi Chief
Minister Arvind Kejriwal
said he will not fight the polls.
If by "strong Prime Minister", you mean that
you preside over a mass massacre of innocent
citizens on the streets of Ahmedabad, that is
the measure of strength, I do not believe that
sort of strength this country needs, least of all,
in its Prime Minister.

* He who loves Me most, alwayssees Me. The whole world isdissolute to him without Me, hewho tells no stories but Mine; heceaselessly meditates upon Meand always chants My name. I feelindebted to him who surrenderscompletely to Me, and everremembers Me. I shall repay hisdebt by giving him self-realization.I am dependent on him, whothinks and hungers after Me andwho does not eat anything, without first offering it to Me. Hewho thus comes to Me, becomesone with Me, just as a river gets tothe sea and becomes one with it.So, leaving out pride and egoismand with no trace of them, youshould surrender yourself to Me,who is seated in your heart. * You need not go far in search ofMe. Barring your name and form, there exists in you as well as in allbeings, a sense of Being orConsciousness of Existence. That is Myself. Knowing this, yousee Me inside yourself, as wellas in all beings. If you practise this, you will realize all-pervasiveness,and thus attain oneness with Me.

VIP security is state withina state within a state. No questionsare asked. No accountability," theminister said.
Union Minister Jairam Ramesh.
Irked over being held up in traffic by Army Chief's security,
Union Minister Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday criticised the
"ridiculous" VIP security system in the country, which according
to him is "state within a state within a state" where there is no
accountability.
The furious Rural Development Minister said he would write to
Defence Minister AK Antony, who doesn't keep a security ring
around him, about the military police taking over Delhi police's
duty and clearing the routes for service chiefs when they move
around the national capital.
Mr Ramesh, who never uses a red beacon on his vehicle, said
his car was blocked near the Army Chief's residence this
afternoon by military police when he was going to Teen Murti
to attend a meeting.
"It is ridiculous... Mr Antony does not do this. There is no security
to Antony at all. And they (military) have their own policemen
to regulate traffic. That is wrong. Delhi Police should regulate
traffic... I am going to write about this to Antony," the minister
said.
Mr Ramesh said he was blocked by military security in the city
when he was walking to his home after work. "It was done for
the smooth passage of the Army chief's convoy," said the minister,
who takes a 40-minute walk to his official residence in Lodhi
Garden without security after work at the Rural Development
Ministry office at Krishi Bhavan in Delhi. "Once I was caught
up in traffic because of the Army chief. Once my traffic was
held up because of the Naval chief. Once I was held up because
of the Air Force chief. Once I was held up because of the
Chief Justice of India," Mr Ramesh said, criticising the VIP
security system.
MR Ramesh also criticised the way the traffic is being blocked
for clearing the routes for convoy of the President and the Prime
Minister.
"Traffic should not be held for anybody. I feel even the traffic
hold up for the Prime Minister, and the President is far too long.
I think the number of cars that accompany the Prime Minister
and the President can easily be reduced by half. VIP security is
state within a state within a state. No questions are asked. No
accountability," the minister said.

Most often, tiredness springs out
from an illness, hormonal imbalance,
pregnancy, vitamin deficiency, work
and family problems, lack of sleep
or boredom. Anti-depressant
medicines can also cause
tiredness.Certain changes in the
lifestyle help to combat tiredness.
Here are multiple tips on how to
overcome tiredness:
Eat a well balanced diet- It is best
to get rid of all unhealthy habits and
lead a healthy lifestyle. A balanced
diet consists of fresh fruits and
vegetables, complex carbohydrates
(like brown rice or cereals), low-fat
dairy products, Avoid smoking and
alcohol consumption. Often high fat
food and sweets clog up the entire
system. Once the initial "yummy"
taste has passed one begins to feel
tired and clumsy.
Check your weight- Being
overweight may be the cause of
tiredness in some people. In this case
the best way to overcome tiredness
is to lose the extra weight and move
around more actively.
Choose social activities
carefully- Partying all night can lead
to long-term exhaustion. Being
constantly stimulated and excited
and interacting endlessly with people
lowers the energy levels and makes
people tired and exhausted.
Maintain a good balance of social
activities to re-charge your energy
and also give yourself time to rest
peacefully.
Physical activity- Engage in some
kind of physical activity like walking,
cycling or swimming. People who
are physically active are less likely
to suffer from tiredness as
compared to sedentary people.
Exercise promotes good oxygen and
blood circulation making one feel
more energetic. Physical activity is
a good way to beat sleepiness and
tiredness.
(Goodday News Network) A
Congress legislator from Andhra

party president Sonia Gandhi to new
heights, or nine feet to be exact. That
is the height of Shankar Rao's 'God-

'Telangana Talli' (Telangana mother)
as a thank-you

Seemandhra leadership over
Telangana. I am donating nine acres
of my own land and with my own
money'' says Dr Rao. "It is not syco-
phancy. I am a core loyalist of the
Nehru-Gandhi family. The Congress
gave me a ticket to contest polls
seven times and I became a minister
twice.''
The statue made of bronze and
weighing 500 kg is being crafted by a
national award-winning sculptor who,
incidentally, belongs to the
Seemandhra region that is vehemently
opposed to Telangana.

2009. The legislator claims he has the
blessings of some Congress leaders
at the Centre for his project. "We have

says. The Congressman's shrine will
have Sonia Gandhi join the ranks of
prominent faces like Khushboo, MG

name.
