My Final Evaluation. Unit 21 Creative Production is about getting the chance to show off your own abilities and have the freedom to do whatever media sector you enjoyed the most over the past 2 years. I was debating initially whether to do photography or a music video, as they are the units I have enjoyed the most, but because I’m aiming for a top merit or maybe a distinction I decided to create a music video. I did this because I have a personal interest in creating films and music is a big passion of mine so I thought this would be perfect for me to get the most out of my final media unit. My initial idea was for me to create a performance and narrative style video and I believe I achieved that goal as you can see through the storyboard and the final product shots. I definitely got all the shot angles that I wanted. I believe that my strengths with this project were teaching the other people filming how to effectively use the camera and tripod but I feel like I could’ve used the tripod more for certain shots throughout the video. A lot of my video was based in Cornwall whilst on holiday so I think throughout production I used my time well and spaced out all the shots nicely over different days. My pre-production was slightly less organised because I couldn’t create a production schedule until I knew the days I was free on holiday so I wrote the production schedule on a day by day basis because then it would look more organised and I remembered all the shots taken on certain days and who was involved in the shots and where we were at the time. Whoever I worked with throughout the video whether I was filming them or they were filming me, everyone got on well and there were no arguments apart from me getting assertive at some points during the darker scenes because it was freezing outside and everyone was getting cold and stressed so we just needed to get it done as quickly and efficiently as possible. It was hard doing pre-production such as the risk assessment because I didn’t really know the environment I was going to be in as I had never been to the area I was visiting before but I got there eventually. I learnt new skills about how to work with the tripod effectively and how to get good angles for certain shots like close ups and side shots and how to use backgrounds to my advantage. I started pre-production by doing research on the artist whose song I was covering for the video and re-watched the original video to get more of an insight into her creative way of thinking so I had some more ideas. Then I did some research into different types of videos and the aspects that were necessary to research before starting the production of my video.

I learnt new skills about how to work with the tripod effectively and how to get good angles for certain shots like close ups and side shots and how

to use backgrounds to my advantage. I started pre-production by doing research on the artist whose song I was covering for the video and re-watched the original video to get more of an insight into her creative way of thinking so I had some more ideas. Then I did some research into different types of videos and the aspects that were necessary to research before starting the production of my video.

As everyone has been really held down finishing their own pieces for their final unit 21 creative production, I couldn’t get much feedback from other students on my project but I feel personally that it came out well and I’m happy with it. It’s the first time I’ve done a project where I have been the boss of all the production work so I was a bit stressed about meeting all the deadlines but when it all came together I was really happy. Looking back on the entire process I feel like my strengths were balancing out the timings and not rushing it but with my weaknesses I feel like some of the filming generally could’ve been better like having a steadier hand when doing the moving shots and certain angles could’ve been shot better.

This is one of my stronger shots I like because even though a raindrop has made it blurry it makes a nice effect and the background is just a naturally pretty contrast with a clear angle shot.

I feel like looking back I should’ve shot this angle from the front rather than behind then had a panning shot to show the lights and go through from there but the black and white was a nice effect for the scene so I’m glad I chose that.

Through the process of editing I went through a lot of video effects before I decided to have some on colour and some in black and white. I used the black and white for mainly the stuff that was shot later at night because the lighting was terrible to make the lighting considerably better. However, one shot I put in black and white which was during the day to give off an almost vintage flashback feel to it which was my initial idea and I fell in love with the black and white footage instantly, so much I almost put it all in black and white but some of the colour contrasts were too good to change just to plain black and white.

During pre-production I learnt a lot on how to organise myself well and space out my timings in a good way throughout the week of filming, plus the few extra days of filming the last few shots closer to home.
