What did you learn from your audience feedback?

QUESTION 3

Audience feedback was the backbone to the successful construction/production of the music video and ancillary

texts ( Album and Magazine Advert). We had to fully understand our genre in order to represent and address our

target audience. Understanding the genre helped us understand audience RESPONSES & EXPECTATIONS.

Our end products had to appeal to our target audience

WHY WAS AUDIENCE FEEDBACK IMPORTANT?

Throughout the research ,construction and production of our media products we received extensive audience

feedback. We used interviews and handed out questionnaires to potential target audiences.

HOW DID WE COLLECT AUDIENCE FEEDBACK

A question which was asked repetitively was “What would you expect to see in an Indie music video?” This was an important

question as it influenced our decisions of what to include within our media products. Common replies:

“Some sort of live performance”

“A narrative”

“Something fun and abstract”

“Performance shots”

We included these common conventions and in doing so we included recognisable charecteristics which audiences would be

able to identify (Barry Grant 1995)

QUESTIONS ASKED

Question asked: “Does the music video include what you would like to see in a typical music video?”

Rersponses:

It was important to find out what our target audience wanted, so throughout the editing process we invited

students to watch what we had produced. This ensured that they understood the narrative and and whether they

thought it worked. What we found was that our narrative was easy to understand but some of the letters that

“Jennifer” spells out were unclear and hard to distinguish. This constructive criticism allowed us to progress forward into constructing a great music video. We slowed down the editing and allowed more time for the letters to be seen.

CONSTRUCTION FEEDBACK

The audience feedback we received was very positive and we had some constructive criticisms, that could easily be

fixed given if we had more time to film again. The audience we targeted really enjoyed the creative animatic side to our music video. This meant we fulfilled one of the main codes of the indie genre. However we challenged the convention of a live performance, which a lot of people wanted to see. This is an improvement an we will consider it the next time we construct a music video in the same genre. However I felt that a live performance wasn’t needed as it wouldn’t

have illustrated the meaning of the lyrics and our concept would have non- existent.
