Why you could be sitting on a Facebook

time bomb …

There are two types of account on Facebook:

1) A personal account

This is all you need to post content to friends and family securely and

create as many business pages as you want to

2) A business account

Mainly for creating adverts and business pages

You should only have 1 personal account …

There is a business option, but this is used by corporates and agencies, it’s not

for small business users.

One of the biggest mistakes that I see on Facebook is when

businesses build their Facebook presence around a personal

profile.

This is the wrong way to use Facebook!

You risk losing the page that you worked so hard to build up and all

those valuable followers who are connected to your business.

Facebook the right way …

1) Use a personal profile and create pages for your business

2) You can completely separate your personal content from your

business content

3) If you set it up incorrectly, you should rectify this situation as soon as

possible

4) You can currently move a personal profile over to a business profile,

but it’s still not as good as doing it the proper way as outlined above

5) To migrate a personal profile to a business page, follow this link:

Once you generate

prospects, leads and

customers on

Facebook, you need to

get them off Facebook

as soon as possible!

My ‘Mothership’ Theory of Social Media

Your blog or website is the ‘mothership’ of your business (ie

the bit that you own and control) social media is a conduit

for finding new prospects and interacting with customers …

Step 1

Drive people to your Fan Page …

=> Via offline advertisement (newspaper, business card, flyer, direct

mail etc)

=> Via word of mouth

=> Via your blog or website

=> Via your existing social media channels (Twitter, LinkedIn etc)

=> Via the media (TV & radio, if you use them)

=> Via Facebook/Google adverts

=> Via your mailing list

=> Embed a ‘like’ button on your blog or website

Facebook Marketing Momentum

Step 2Offer them a free gift with high perceived value …

=> Think about the ‘pain’ that your customers experience in your

industry … or common questions that you are asked regularly

=> Create a video, audio or short report that you can offer for free

which offers answers or solutions to this ‘pain’

Announce to Fan Page visitors that they can access your gift as

soon as they subscribe to your mailing list

See my own example with ‘What To say And Do On Social

Media’

Step 3Take your customer OFF Facebook as soon as possible …

=> As soon as your new prospect arrives on your free gift page,

you need to offer them something of a higher value immediately

(ie regular discounts, subscriber privileges, a more detailed report

etc)

=> To obtain this additional free gift, they must register via your

auto responder newsletter service

=> Use this form to collect whatever data is necessary for you to

follow them up as a lead

=> Never allow Facebook to ‘own’ your data … always take your

prospects off Facebook as soon as possible (more on this

shortly!)

The List Building Launch Pad

What is an auto responder?

An auto responder enables you to capture the personal data of your

prospects so that you can market to them time and time again.

Recommended auto responders

Mailchimp is free up to 2000 subscribers, 12000 emails per month

I use GetResponse personally.

The auto responder

link appears in your

APPS area.

This technique used

to be NINJA when

Fan Gates were in

operation

AWeber, Mailchimp

and GetResponse

have simple

Facebook

integrations

Auto responder essentials …

1) Always choose the double-optin option to keep you compliant with the

Can-Spam Act 2003

2) If you hold customer data you should register with the ICO, Information

Commissioner’s Office (£35 annually)

3) You should always give your customers the option to opt out of your

emails

4) These days, as well as capturing name and email address, I would also

begin to think about capturing mobile phone details

The best way to do this is using the

simple ‘call-to-action’ button

provided by Facebook …
