BULK EMAILSZOMBIES & Have in Common

SENDIO E–BOOK 9 THINGS ZOMBIES AND BULK EMAILS HAVE IN COMMON

Relentless, brain sucking, and terrifying…but we’re not here just to talk about all the unread email in your inbox—we want to talk about zombies too.

Let’s take a look at nine things bulk email and zombies have in common—and what they teach us about how you use your email.

A zombie wants nothing more than to help you join the zombie club. But if you’re the average worker—spending roughly 30% of your day managing email—it might already mistake you for a zombie. Email has turned you into a zombie without you even knowing it.

Both turn you into a zombie.1

Zombies have strength in numbers, so when you run across a zombie hoard it’s probably time to turn and run. Your bulk emails might have the same affect on you. Instead of carefully weeding through them to find important emails, it’s easier to just get the heck out of there and ignore them. But that would be ill-advised because…

When you see them, you want to run.2

They keep coming without giving you a chance to catch up.

They just keep coming. No sooner do you shoot or remove the head of one zombie and—BAM!— an unnoticed zombie on your right has his teeth in your shoulder. Block one email spammer and—BAM!—another spammer is sending you ads for time-share rentals in Las Vegas. Is it a coincidence that Las Vegas is ground zero for zombies? We think not.

Zombies always try the back door. As soon as you have the bookcase moved to block the front door—CRASH!—a zombie is coming through the back door or kitchen window. While they’re not known for their intelligence, zombies can be clever when hungry. Emails sent to list addresses such as info@, sales@, support@ are a favorite way for the hungry spammer to get through.

They find a way to get in.4

Zombies in suits can be deceptive because they look like most sales professionals. No sooner do you complement a guy on his tie and suddenly—POW!—he’s trying to gouge your eyeball out to use as a garnish in his martini. This is the uncommon suave zombie, but for email this is not uncommon. A dressed up email with a certain flair and use of your industry’s terms can get you to release it from the spam folder. This is a serious issue that can lead to a virus infection of a different kind.

They can be deceptive.5

Zombies don’t reply to questions—at least not intelligibly. Machine generated email too will not reply either. They even mock you by calling themselves NO-REPLY@. They instead tell you to click on “this link.” Unless you fancy yourself a scream queen, do yourself a favor and don’t click on the link.

They don’t reply to questions.6

They take time to manage.

You think hacking off a zombie’s arm will stop him? Nice try. When you’re battling zombies, you gotta take out the heads of the zombies to get rid of them—rushing and hacking away at torsos and limbs won’t get the job done. It’s better to take your time to make sure you do it right, or else you’ll have a pile of disembodied limbs chasing you down. Your bulk mail, too, will pile up if you don’t take the time to manage it. At some point you need to focus on it to eliminate it.

Despite their fascination with brains, zombies aren’t known for their attention to detail, so you’ll sometimes find a human trying to sneak their way out of the hoard. If you’re indiscriminately blowing away all the zombies, you might make a tragic mistake in the process. Recklessly hitting the delete button while ridding your inbox of bulk mail can also cause big problems. If you accidentally miss and delete an important email, you could have a mess on your hands.

Be careful how you eliminate them.8

Trade that stick in for a spear, that broom in for a pickaxe, and your brick in for a sledgehammer and you’ll be a lot better off while you’re taking out zombies. The right weapon makes all the difference. Think of Sendio as your organization’s secret weapon against email zombies. Hack away at the time it takes to manage your email and slash the amount of unimportant mail you receive in your inbox.

It’s easier to fight with the right weapon.9
