INTRODUCTION Jim McCall produced this model for the US Air Force’s

computer based command and control software.

The intention was to bridge the gap between users and developers

Map the user view with the developer's priority.

Quality was a way to derive Quantitative measurement of software for objective analysis.

McCall’s Quality FactorsThe factors are divided into three categories

Software quality factors

Product operation factors

Product revision factors

Product transition factors

Product Operation FactorsMcCall’s approach is to define a set of metrics and develop expressions for each quality factor according to which :

Fq = c1 m1 + c2 m2 + ... + cn mn

where,Fq is a quality factor, cn are regression coefficients and mn are the metrics that affect that quality factor.

Major aspects of approach

User-oriented at highest level.

Software-oriented at lower levels.

Provides quantification of the attributes.

Can be applied periodically during software development.

Additional metrics, criteria or even factors can be added as the technologies of producing software change and as research efforts identify better measures.
