GE and Qualcomm Atheros are developing LED lights that will use both visible light communication (imperceptible light pulse patterns that can send info to apps) and Bluetooth low energy tech. 3. Retailers Plan on Identifying Customers Entering Stores

Boston Retail Partners contacted 500 plus top North American retailers. Their report indicates in-store marketers are looking to pinpoint consumers and then tailoring their services. There will be an 883% increase in the next five years of retailers aiming to identify consumers when they enter the store. However, currently only 6% of retailers can identify consumers when they enter the store, 90% can identify them at check-out. 83% indicated that in five years time they hope that they can suggest relevant products in the purchase journey.ibeaconsblog.com/report-pinpointing-consumers/

In the first use of beacons at a zoo in Italy, they were placed throughout the zoo send messages to their devices such as information, suggestions, special events and rewards (that can be unlocked by answering quiz questions).
