DESCRIPTION

1st John 5:6-126 This is he who came by water and blood — Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. 9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Testimony To The Son

1st John 5:6-12 6 This is he who came by water and blood — Jesus

Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. What did Calvary do for Jesus?

Calvary testified that Jesus was greater and distinctly different than anyone before Him and everyone after Him. It also showed the Father’s testimony concerning Jesus

1st John 5:9 9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony

of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son.

The Testimony of God: Water

Luke 3:3 3 And he (John the Baptist) went into all the region

around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

Matthew 3:13-15 13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John,

to be baptized by him. 14 John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” 15 But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented.

If baptism is generally associated with sin, why was Jesus baptized? He fulfilled God’s righteousness. He obeyed God’s law to fullest.

▪ Psalm 19:7▪ 7 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the

LORD is sure, making wise the simple

He lived as a man.

The Testimony of God: Blood

The Old Testament is best understood through the analogy of Types and Shadows

Hebrews 10:1 1 For since the law has but a shadow of the good

things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near.

The Testimony of God: Blood

Hebrews 9:22 22 Indeed, under the law almost everything is

purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

The shedding of Christ blood signaled the end of animal sacrifice and the introduction to the final sacrifice who once and for all removes sin.

John 1:29 29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and

said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

The Testimony of God: Spirit

Isaiah 11:1-5 1 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of

Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. 2 And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. 3 And his delight shall be in the fear of the LORD. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide disputes by what his ears hear, 4 but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked. 5 Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the belt of his loins.

The Spirit of God rested on Jesus in a unique way. He exhibited God-level… Wisdom and Understanding (Colossians 2:1-3) Counsel (Isaiah 28:29) Strength (Ephesians 6:10) Knowledge (John 1:46-51) Fear Of The Lord (Obedience)
