Christmas Dinner
Christmas dinner was cooked and prepared by our fabulous catering staff on Wednesday. They worked extremely hard to ensure the children and staff enjoyed a delicious meal.
Children were delighted to see Mr Dumbell and Mrs Bennet dressed as snowmen, serving the festive food! As you can imagine there was nearly a melt down as the two snowmen tried to keep up with the serving of 448 dinners!
The children thoroughly enjoyed the party atmosphere. So, thank you to all the staff who helped on the day to make it such a seasonal success for all the children to enjoy.
To think our youngest children in Reception have completed their first term in Norwood and they have settled in superbly well. We have been delighted that virtually every year
group have been able to enjoy regular sessions of Forest School, and those year groups that haven't will get a chance in the next term. We have had more outdoor visits particularly to the local community and we have been able to offer more clubs than ever
before.
Once again the term has flown by and after a frenetic week of Christmas celebrations with the Christmas Fair, the
infants plays, the Carol Concert, the Christmas dinner, the Pantomime, the Christmas Craft morning and the Christmas Fun Day, it is amazing to look back at the term gone by
and marvel at how quickly it has gone and how busy, exciting and enjoyable it has been.
For that I thank all the staff for their hard work in giving their time and going that extra bit further to ensure our children at Norwood receive a wonderful educational journey.
Once again I have to remark that I feel proud of the children of Norwood for their hard work and great enthusiasm for everything we do and it is always a great feeling, when we, as a school community, receive positive attention for the great things that go on.
I naturally hope everyone has some time to relax over the Christmas holiday and that they have a wonderful family time. Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2010!

Behaviour Audit Update
Following the behaviour audit at the end of the summer term our
Behaviour Team have been meeting to analyse the results and build upon our behaviour policy.
The audit indicated some trends:Golden time is valued as a reward: we are looking at ways to make it
even more golden.Responses to whether sanctions worked were varied. We are looking at simplifying the
sanctions ladder, so we respond more quickly to poor behaviour. Parental views of ‘Star of the
Week’ were mixed: the group have been focusing on extending the range of rewards we have to
celebrate good behaviour.Parents are keen on hearing good news from class teachers: we have been looking at ways of
doing this.We will be introducing some of these developments in the New
Year. Look out for details.
Filmclub – a reflection
After the very successful
launch of Filmclub this term the Filmclub Crew have reflected on their
experience. Every week, the Filmclub helpers in Y6, make sure that Y3 + Y4 are comfortable on the mats,
take the register and award the children for their reviews or excellent
behaviour. The Filmclub Crew have risen to the challenge of organising film
screenings for over 90 children, they have also decided that Bugsy Malone was the best film for all
round entertainment. Special thanks go to: Mrs Bennet, Lucie Cresswell,
Nefertiti Mitchell, Kieran Davis, Liam Beirne, Jack Morrison Williams, Rachael
Maiden, Red Roses Darbyshire, and James Ashton for their hard work.

The ScarecrowYear 1 gave a brilliant performance of The
Scarecrow.
KS2 Carol ConcertParents, friends and children flocked to Leyland Road Methodist
Church last week for our annual Carol Concert. With the church packed to the rafters and the aisles overflowing, the audience were treated to a wonderful celebration of Christmas from the KS2
children at their best. After Rev. Knight began the evening, the school Singing Club started the programme with two superb renditions of 'Christmas Calypso' and 'Winter Wonderland'. Following
on from Mr. Dumbell's welcome, each year group delivered some reciting of famous Christmas poems or singing of some modern Christmas songs. Interspersed with excellent narration from the specially chosen Year 6 pupils and the congregation singing some
traditional carols, the whole evening was a delight and one that everyone associated with Norwood should be proud of. We might have to find a bigger venue next year or even start charging!
