Baptism

Ephesians 4:5

5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

Baptism in the Bible

• Baptism unto Moses 1Cor. 10:2

• Baptism of John the Baptist John 1:31

• Baptism of Suffering Mat. 20:23

• Baptism for Nation of Israel Acts 2:23

• Baptism for Gentiles 1Pet. 3:21

• Baptism of the Spirit 1Cor. 12:13

• Baptism of Fire Mat. 3:11-12

How can 7 = 1 ?

There is only one true Baptism, meaning the rest are figures (types of pictures) of the one real.

God loves ‘shock value’. When you see something that doesn’t look right in the Bible

its there to get you attention so God can teach you something.

Baptism unto Moses

Baptism unto Moses

1 Corinthians 10:1-4

Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under thecloud, and all passed through the sea;

2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank

of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Exodus 12:7

• They were under grace (no law given yet)

• Their journey started by exiting under the blood of the lamb

• They left Egypt (picture of the world)

• Sea opened on either side,

• And the cloud covered them

• No Holy Ghost given as part of this Baptism

Baptism of John the Baptist

Mat. 3:11 John 1:31

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than

I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

John the Baptist not part of ‘Church age’

John 3:29

He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

• Why is John come baptizing?

– That Jesus (Messiah) might be made manifest

• To whom is he manifest?

– Israel

John’s Baptism pictures the death and burial of a sinner under the wrath of God. This is to show the sinner (Nation) Messiah has come to take his place.

The Picture explained

Matthew 3:13-1513 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan

unto John, to be baptized of him.14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be

baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to

be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

How does this ‘fulfil allrighteousness’?

Isaiah 53:12Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall

divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out

his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made

intercession for the transgressors.

2 Cor. 1:21

A Church age Christian is ‘in Christ’. You have already had John the Baptist’s Baptism because Jesus was baptized of him.

Baptism of Suffering

Mat. 20:22-23

… Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?

When Jesus ask this he has already been baptized in water by John 3yrs. before. He is making reference to the next thing that will happen- his death.

David and Jonah explain

Jonah 2:2-6 …out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou headrest my voice. For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas…The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about…yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption…

David and Jonah explain

Ps. 88:4-18 I am counted with them that go down into the pit… like the slain that lie in the grave… Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in deeps thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves.. Lord, why castest thou off my soul? Thy fierce wrath goeth over me…

body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Colossians 2:10-12

10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

Baptism of Fire

Baptism of Fire

Matthew 3:1111 I indeed baptize you with water unto

repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with

• the Holy Ghost,

• and with fire:

Matthew 3:1212 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly

purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

Mark 9:4343 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for

thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

Gods final Judgment

Revelation 20:1414 And death and hell were cast into the lake of

fire. This is the second death.

Water and Fire are Gods expression of wrath and judgment. A sinners eternal destination is in the lake of fire. Probably some kind of liquid fire (like lava). Rev.15:2
