Introduction and Summary

In John 16:33 Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in

Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world

you have tribulation and trials and distress and

frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be

confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]” (AMP)

There’s absolutely nothing that can overtake us if we put our TOTAL trust and confidence in Him and obey the Word.Consequently, these lessons are designed to teach you how to embrace the power of God that’s available in the Person of the Holy Spirit. He will empower you to handle and overcome anxiety, anger, depression, frustration, and feeling powerless during this economic downturn. The truth is what Jesus told His disciples over 2000 years ago are applicable today. Do you believe it? Do you want help? Would like to experience the compassion of the One who created you in His image and likeness? If so, you’re at a good place to begin the healing process. We’ll focus on six (6) emotions that are most common during stressful and challenging times. It is my prayer that you receive the encouragement for which this series is purposed.

God’s Power over AngerJames 1:19-20; Ephesians 4:26-27; Proverbs

14:29

Anger is a strong feeling of displeasure. It is an advanced stage of frustration. It is a deep-seated feeling of being out of control and unable to cope. Anger is the emotion that can result from feeling powerless, and being frustrated. If not dealt with properly, or controlled by the power of Good, anger results in outbursts and is acted out in violent behavior and even criminal and destructive conduct.

TWO TYPES OF ANGER

POSITIVE / WISE PERSON NEGATIVE /FOOLISH PERSON

Righteous anger reflects God’s perspective.

It reflects God’s hatred of evil and sin

It reflects God’s love for justice.

Unrighteous anger promotes self interests

It protects self interest

It reflects evil and inappropriate behavior

There are various reasons this emotion can surface, i.e., life’s circumstances, unpleasant situations and conditions, relationships issues, financial matters, etc.

Anger is a God-given emotion that can motivate us to reflect the “heart” of God and take a stand against opposition and carry out Kingdom assignments as His representatives in the Earth. Example of righteous anger: Jesus in Mark 11:15-17, John 2:13-16. This was a demonstration of righteous anger because “money changers” actions and conduct were contrary to God’s plan and purpose for the Temple. Therefore, it made Jesus angry to see this inappropriate behavior in God’s designated place of reverence that represented His presence and holiness.

For “faith talking” believing and practicing Christians ,ask yourself the following questions:

1. Am I a person with understanding or am I a foolish person? I choose to determine the kind of person I am by my actions. (Ref. Proverbs 14:29)

2. Am I a “doer” of the Word, or a hearer only?

3. Do I want to give the devil a foothold, and allow my emotions to control? (Ref. Eph. 4:26-27).

Distinguishing the difference…

Practical tips for controlling anger1.Practice and develop good listening

skills

2.Learn to be quiet (be slow to speak; take deep breaths)

3. STOP! Think! Try to understand the other person’s perspective

4. STOP! Think! Consider the consequences if you react or respond in anger.

REVIEW AND DISCUSSION1. Meditate on Proverbs 14:29, Proverbs 15:1, and James 1:19-20.

2.   Do you get angry easily? Is it righteous or unrighteous anger? Be honest with yourself. Ask God to reveal the truth to you about yourself.

3.  People often justify their anger by quoting Ephesians 4:26-27, “Be angry, but do not sin.” However, they often let the sun go down while they’re still angry. Give this verse some thought. Let the power of the Holy Spirit give you insight.

Read 2 Samuel 13 (the story of Absalom’s anger toward his brother Amnon for raping their sister, Tamar). Was Absalom’s anger justified to point of murder ?

ACTION

PRAYER:Father, thank you for being concerned about every area of my life because it’s your desire for me to represent you well in the earth. I confess that sometimes I don’t because of my unrighteous anger to control my thoughts and actions. I want to change. Forgive me. Help me to allow your Holy Spirit to empower me so that I can experience your power over anger. In Jesus’ name I pray. I believe; I receive. Amen.
