Genesis chapter 6-9

Page 3: Covenant part 2 (Noahic)

After 1056 years from the Edenic promise Noah was born, his father was Lamech son of Methuselah whose father was Enoch the seventh generation from Adam. At Noah’s time, 1500 years after the fall, the people of the Earth was so wicked that cause God to grieve in his heart and decided to destroy them all.

Gen_6:5, And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6, And it repented (to sign or to breath from H5162) the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved (displease, grieve, hurt H6087) him at his heart. 7, And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

God’s Judgment to mankind in doing wickedness

1) God put time limit in dealing man. Man’s time table is 120 years.

Gen_6:1, And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 3, And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

Page 7: Covenant part 2 (Noahic)

120 years were not an ordinary years, a year which we thought 12 months cycle. These years might be a Jubilee years. In God’s Calendar there are two kinds of calendar year.

 a) 12- month Cycle andb) Fifty (50) years Cycle – Jubilee year -- 120 x 50 = 6000 yrs

Biblical proof :  a) Shem died at the age of 600 (2 yrs after the flood) – Gen. 11:10-11 b) Abraham died at the age of 175 years – Gen. 25:7c) Terah died at the age of 205 yrs -- Gen. 11:32

Therefore 120 years in Genesis 6:3 is not and ordinary years.

2) Destruction because of wickedness

1,656 years from the fall, down to Noah, men becomes more wicked that cause God to become sad and angry. God wanted the ungodly people to be destroyed by flood.

Gen_6:5-8, And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6, And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7, And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 8, But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD

2Pe_2:5, And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

Covenent

Page 11: Covenant part 2 (Noahic)

The first word covenant found in Genesis 6:18, it is about the covenant between God and Noah (specifically) and humanity (generally). It is unconditional Covenant.

Gen_9:8-11, And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying, 9, And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; 10, And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth. 11, And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.

Page 12: Covenant part 2 (Noahic)

The Noahic Covenant was an unconditional covenant. The Lord God never asked any condition to Noah.. After the Flood, God promised him that He would never again destroy all life on earth with a Flood. God gave the rainbow as thesign of the covenant, a promise that the entire earth would never again have flood.

Page 13: Covenant part 2 (Noahic)

Gen_9:12, And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13, I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. 14, And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: 15, And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16, And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. 17, And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

In Noahic covenant, The Lord YHWH Elohim reconfirm man’s authority over the earth

(Genesis 1:28-30).

Gen_9:1, And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. 2, And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. 3, Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

Gen_9:7, And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.

Page 15: Covenant part 2 (Noahic)

The Prohibition of eating Blood

Adam was forbidden to eat the fruit of the tree of knowing good and evil, Noah and his seed were also prohibited to eat food mingled with blood.

Gen_9:3, Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. 4, But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. 5, And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man.

Note: Failure to obey this command cannot nullify the covenant of God to Noah and his descendants. The Noahic Covenant is unconditional
