Introduction

This bibliography has been prepared to enlarge the collection of a large public library on Cultural Heritage, Spiritual Journeys, and Pilgrimages. A significant part of this bibliography devoted to resources about the spiritual pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela as the main Christian pilgrimage destination. The titles have been chosen in a variety of formats to meet the basic research and general interest needs of adult citizens using a public library. Most of the resources are reviewed and review sources are listed at the end of each description.

Pilgrimage is understood as a departure from daily life on a journey in search of spiritual blessing.

THE CULTURAL POWER OF SACRED PLACES SEEMS TO HAVE DIMINISHED LITTLE, AND PERHAPS EVEN GROWN, IN THE MODERN ERA. PARTICIPATION IN PILGRIMAGES HAS INCREASED IMMENSELY IN RECENT DECADES AS GREATER NUMBERS OF PEOPLE ARE ABLE TO TRAVEL THE WORLD TO VISIT HOLY SITES, PARTAKE IN CEREMONIES AND RITUALS, AND ADD ANOTHER DIMENSION TO THE EXPRESSION OF THEIR FAITH.

•Using maps, charts, timelines, photographs, and text, this atlas presents a historical geography of religion. There are the edited writings of several highly qualified authors who are all professors at universities around the world. Through history the changes in the world of religion have been traced by reference to broader traditions. The text and maps on the world's religions are amplified with timelines and photographs of sacred sites, figures, and objects. Furthermore, it continues to describe how various beliefs were transmitted to different areas of the world. Because of this work's inclusiveness and easy-to-read maps and text, it will be appreciated by both specialists and generalists.

•This two-volume reference work documents a wide variety of religious celebrations by a number of major religions. There are more than 600 entries including major entries for many of the world's religions. Each entry has a short description, a list of see also references, and a short bibliography. There is a large index at the end, and all entries are listed in the table of contents in the front of each volume. This encyclopedia documents the diversity of shrines, temples, holy places, and pilgrimage sites sacred to the world's major religious traditions. The book describes specific places like the Erawan Shrine and the Rock of Cashel, and examines types of sacred sites, pilgrimages, and practices.

This website that was started in 2002 with 32 pages on the Camino Francés with English captions and it now has over 500 pages with a total of nearly 5,000 pictures. It is intended to complement the many excellent books, maps, and guides available commercially. These pages give day-by-day descriptions of 8 Caminos, nearly all of them in both English and Spanish, and provide first-hand impressions of questions which others have raised in the past. The website updates daily.

Why in an age of advanced biotechnology and medicine, do millions still go on pilgrimages? Why do journeys to important religious shrines—such as Lourdes, Compostela, Fátima, and Medjugorje—constitute a major industry?

It is an extremely valuable addition to any collection on faith and medicine. •Pilgrim is an instrumental concept with no lyrics. The sound of the band employs lashing of the Hammond organ, the piano and vintage synthesizer sounds. This expanded palette adds a depth to the music and provides a greater variety of textures, such as the church organ. This great music that has style is influenced from the past, but is still a progression. It sounds great and is excellently played. 9. Dickinson, D. (2009). Death of a pilgrim. New York: Soho Constable.

This historical mystery transports readers to the early twentieth century depicting a group of pilgrims who are walking to Santiago de Compostela. The characters, setting and writing make the book very appealing and interesting because of a more up to date perspective of pilgrimages and the reader will learn a lot about them.
