Background to Dunking
“The second part of baptism is the sign, or sacrament, which is that
immersion into water from this also it derives its name. For the Greek
baptizo means “I immerse,” and baptisma means “immersion.”
“Babylonian Captivity”
Luther and Dunking
For this reason I would have the candidates for baptism completely immersed in the water, as the word
says and as the sacrament signifies.
“Babylonian Captivity”
Luther and Dunking
Not that I deem this necessary, but it would be well to give to so perfect and complete a thing a perfect and
complete sign.
Thus it was also doubtless instituted by Christ.
“Babylonian Captivity”
Luther and Dunking
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but
whoever does not believe will be condemned
Mark 16:16
Luther and Dunking
I want to encourage you to fight hard for the faith that God gave his holy people. God gave this faith once, and it is good for all time.
Jude 3
God or Human
Make disciples of all nations, DUNKING (baptizing) them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and
teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

Taught
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make
her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the
word, Ephesians 5:25-26
and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. Ephesians 5:25-27
In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as
their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
Ephesians 5:28
After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as
Christ does the church— for we are members of
his body.Ephesians 5:29-30
“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother
and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This is a
profound mystery—but I am talking
about Christ and the church.
Ephesians 5:31-32
