1. “ I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel.“ (Gen 3:15)

2. “Offspring” = seed =spermatosis (Always comes from a man; so why a woman…??)3. Who is “He”…? Adam & Eve’s son; Anticipation of a Saviour!!! we’ll name him Ben Adam = Son of Humanity = Son of ‘Man’

1. Adam’s firstborn is Cain, then Abel... Cain tills the ground, & offers produce of the soil: unfavorable Abel is a shepherd & offers first-born of flock : favorable

2. God tells Cain that sin is a lurking demon, his urge is towards you, yet you can master him (Gen 4:7)Cain murders Abel in the field… (Gen 4:8)

2. Cain: The first murderer. Abel: The first martyr.

“..your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground..” (Gen 4:10)

3. Cain is banished, but protected by God. (Gen 4:15)

1. Cain builds & names city after his son, Enoch. (Gen 4:17) & down to … Lamech: marries (& threatens) two wives, (Gen 4:19) commits more murder, (Gen 4:23) and blasphemes against God!!! (Gen 4:24)

2. Seth is born. “…because God has granted me other offspring… because Cain killed Abel” (Gen 4:25)

Enosh is born. “Then he was the first to call on the name of God.” (Gen 4:26) & down to …

Enoch, who doesn’t die because: “…was no more, for God took him.” (Gen 5:24)

1. The world is FILLED WITH EVIL…!!!

“When the Lord saw how great man’s

wickedness was… His heart was

grieved.” (Gen 6:5) “I will wipe out from the earth men… beasts… creeping things… birds…” (Gen 6:7)

2. ”But Noah won God’s favour...“

(Gen 6:8) The offspring of Adam, Seth, Enosh… down to Noah.

(Gen 5:28) an upright man… walked with God” (Gen 6:9) “…six hundred years old…” (Gen 7:6)

1. Noah is told to :

“…build an Ark…” (Gen 6:14 ) and is warned of the coming FLOOD! (Gen 6:17)

2. God commands Noah to take a pair of every kind of animal into the Ark.

A week before the flood, Noah enters the Ark with his wife, & his 3 sons & their wives. It rains 40 days & 40 nights…!!! There is a flood for about 150 days…. (Gen 7 & 8)

“…God made a wind sweep over the earth, and the waters began to subside…” (Gen 8:1) (Gen 1:2)

Noah sends out a dove, and it comes back... (Gen 8:8)

7 days later, Noah again

sends out the dove,

it returns back with an

olive branch. Land…!!!

(Gen 8:10- 11)

Covenant with Noah,

his sons, descendents

& all living things…(Gen 9:8)

“I set my rainbow in the

clouds as a sign of the

covenant between Me and

the earth. (Gen 9:13)

The world setting during Abram’s period… (2166BC)

The world spoke the same language.

They said to each other: "Come, let's build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top reaches to the sky, and let's make a name for ourselves…” (Gen 11:4)

God said: “Let us go down

there and confuse theirlanguage…”(Gen 11:7) So… they stopped

building. Babel; Hebrew for

Babylon… Bab-ili: Gate of the

Gods… Babil: be confused…

1. Abram is a 75 year old nomad. He has no place of settlement.

2. Settled at Ur of the Chaldeans… which was the land Shinar, where Babel is located.

3. He’s a leader of a large strong tribe; “…musters 318 armed servants of his own household…” (Gen 14:14) 16

God gives Abram3 promises…

- Land (Gen 12:1-3)

- Descendents/ Royal Name

- Universal Blessings God tells him to move away

from his father’s house and kinfolk and move into the land of Canaan… (Gen 12:1) AWAY FROM THE COMFORT ZONE!!!

“And Abram said: Lord God, what wilt thou give me? I shall go without children…”(Gen15:2) And immediately the word of the Lord came to him, saying… that shall come out of your bowels, him shalt thou have for thy heir. (Gen 15:4.)Yahweh brought him outside, and said, "Look now toward the sky, and count the stars, if you are able to count them." He said to Abram, "So shall your seed be." (Gen15;5)

1. At 99 years old… God tells Abram to change his name from Abram ‘Exalted Father’ to Abraham, ‘Father of a multitude of nations’. (Gen 17:5) Sarai, (my princess) becomes Sarah (princess) (Gen 17:15)

2. Covenant sealed by circumcision. (Gen 17:10)

3. Every male, after 8 days, shall be circumcised.

1. Sarai / Sarah had been barren & childless. Abram, upon Sarai’s request, has a child through the Egyptian maidservant, Hagar. Ishmael is born. (Gen 16) 2. But… God promises a son to Abraham by Sarah (Gen 17:16) Abraham laughs… 3. In the apparition at Mamre, God says again promises

a child to Sarah by the following year, Sarah laughs. (Gen 18:12)

4. Isaac is born… (Gen 21:3) ‘Isaac’.. means ‘laughter’.

1. “Take your son Isaac, your only son, whom you love, go to the land of Moriah… offer him up as a sacrifice on a height which I shall show you.” (Gen 22:2) Abraham obediently leaves the next morning, with Isaac and two servants.

2. “On the third day, Abraham looked up, and saw the place from afar…” (Gen 22:4) His servant wait, while he “takes Isaac to worship…” (Gen 22:5)

3. “Father… where is the sheep for the sacrifice?” (Gen 22:7 ) Abraham: “God Himself will provide”(Gen22:8)

4. “…Abraham built an altar… he tied up his son Isaac… put him on the wood of the altar…” (Gen 22:9) “…he reached out and took the knife to kill his son…” (Gen 22:10)

5. The angel stops Abraham: "Don't lay your hand on the boy… for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” (Gen 22:12)

6. “He (Abraham) reasoned that God was able to raise from the dead, and he received Isaac back as a symbol…” (Heb 11:19)

1. Isaac marries Rebekah… (Gen 24) She has twins in her womb: “…two nations in yourwomb…but one shall surpass the other, and the older shall serve the younger” (Gen 25:23)

It’s Esau & Jacob!! 2. Jacob usurps Esau’s blessing and flees to Laban.

(Gen 27) 3. Works for about 14 years, marries Leah & Rachel…

…also with Zilpah & Bilbah, the maidservants.. has 12 sons. Reconciles with Esau… (Gen 33;4)

“He dreamed. Behold, a stairway set upon the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. Behold, the angels of God ascending and descending on it. (Gen 28:12)

“Behold, Yahweh stood above it, and said, "I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The land whereonyou lie, to you will I give it, and to your seed. (Gen 28:13)

“Jacob awakened out of his sleep, and he said, "Surely Yahweh is in this place, and I didn't know it.“ (Gen 28:16)

“… This is none other than God's house, and this is the gate of heaven.“ (28:17)

1. Wrestles with God. “Jacob … wrestled with a man there until the breaking of the day. When he saw that he didn't prevail against him … as he wrestled.(Gen 32:25)

2. Changes name to Israel. “You shall no longer be spoken of as Jacob, but as Israel, because you have contended with divine and human beings and have prevailed.” (Gen 32:29)

3. Reff. to Hosea“…he contended with God. (Hos 12:4) He(Jacob) contented with an angel and triumphed…At Bethel, he met God…”(Hos 12:5)

1. Jacob/Israel has 12 sons, that will become the twelve tribes of the Israel nation in Egypt. Joseph is Rachel’s firstborn, & Jacob’s favourite. Joseph literally dreams that his family will bow down to him. (Gen 37: 7 & Gen 37:9)

2. His brothers become jealous & sell him off as a slave into Egypt. They tell their father that perhaps Joseph was killed…

3. Joseph becomes a servant of Potiphar, an Egyptian official, and becomes in charge of his household. Potiphar’s wife tries to seduce Joseph and fails… and she has Joseph thrown in jail.

4. When Pharaoh needed a dream interpreter, Joseph is brought in & correctly interprets Pharaoh's dreams. Joseph becomes Pharaoh’s highest ranking official.

5. Ten of Joseph’s brother’s go to Egypt… & do not recognize him. Joseph (who totally recognizes them), keeps Simeon as a prisoner, asks them about to return again with their youngest brother Benjamin (who has now become Jacob’s favourite).

6. Reluctantly, Joseph’s brothers return to Egypt again, with Benjamin. Joseph treats them very well...

7. Before the brothers leave, Joseph secretly places his silver goblet in Benjamin’s bag. As the brothers are about to exit the city, Joseph sends out his steward, who calls them back.

8. They are then accused by Joseph of stealing… & Benjamin alone would have to stay behind for compensation…

9. Now, Judah steps up … He speaks of how much Jacob loves Benjamin & how (Judah) had given assurance of Benjamin’s return to his father… So, he tells Joseph: “Let me … remain... in place as a slave, and let Benjamin go back.. ” (Gen 44:33)

10. Then, Joseph reveals his true identity… and the brothers are dumb founded. Then the entire family migrates into Egypt…

11. Joseph tells his brothers; “Even though you meant harm to me, God meant it for good, to achieve his present end, the survival of many people.” (Gen 50:20)

1. Joseph makes his brothers promise; “When God thus takes care of you, you must bring my bones up with you from this place.” (Gen 50:25)

2. He said to Abram, "Know for sure that your seed will live as foreigners in a land... They will afflict them four hundred years. I will also judge that nation... (Gen15:13-14)

1. Slavery: 1:8…there arose a new king over Egypt, that knew not Joseph…” (Ex 1:8) “…let us wisely oppress them… (Ex 1:10) Infanticide: “Whatsoever shall be born of the male sex, cast into the river: whatsoever of the female, keep alive. (Ex 1:22)

2. Levite child Moses (Mashah; draw out) survives infanticide and lives 40 years in Egypt court…(Ex.2) Kills an Egyptian, & flees into exile in Median for 40 years… (Ex 2:11-22)

3. Israelites in slavery back in Egypt cried out to God… “…(God) heard their groaning and remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob…” (Gen 2:23)

1. And the Lord appeared to him(Moses) in a flame of fire… (Moses) he saw that the bush was on fire, and was not burnt… (Ex 3:2)

2. “And God said: Come not nearer, take off the shoes from your feet; for the place, whereon you stand, is holy ground.” (Ex 3:5)

3. “God said to Moses: I AM WHO AM. … you shall say to the children of Israel: I AM, hath sent me to you.” (Ex 3:14)

1. Aaron’s Rod becomes a serpent: “Aaron threw his staff down before Pharaoh… and it changed into a snake””(Ex 7:10)

2. Pharaoh’s diviners do the same but, “…Aaron’s staff swallowed up theirs.”

3. God gives Pharaoh and Egypt the 10 plaques (Ex 7:14 – 11:10)

The Paschal Lamb (Ex 12:3)

A year old lamb, without blemish, on the 10th day to the 14ht day, slaughtered at twilight, roasted only, eaten whole without leftover, eaten with bitter herbs and unleavened bread.

1. The blood of the lamb is to be applied on the two doorposts and the top lintel. “…seeing the blood, I will pass over you…”( Ex 12:13)

2. The Tenth Plague: ”At midnight, the Lord slew every first born of Egypt… “ (Ex12:29)

3. Departure from Egypt: “Go and leave my people… you and the Israelites… go and worship the Lord as you said…” (Ex 12:31)

1. God: “I will receive glory through Pharaoh and all his army… and the Israelites will know that I am the Lord.” (Ex 14:4)

2. “What have we done?’ they (the Pharaoh & Egyptians) exclaimed, ‘we have released Israel from our service” So Pharaoh made his chariots ready… (Ex 14: 5-6)

1. “And when Moses had stretched forth his hand over the sea, the Lord took it away by a strong and burning wind blowing all the night, and turned it into dry ground, and the water was divided.” (Ex 14:21)

2.   “…the Israelites marched into the sea in the midst of dry land…” (Ex 14:22)

“And the Lord said to Moses: Stretch forth thy hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots and horsemen. (Ex 14:26)

“And the waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen of all the army of Pharaoh, who had come into the sea after them, neither did there so much as one of them remain.” (Ex14: 28)

“…all the multitude of the children of Israel came into the desert of Sin…”(Ex 16:1)

“And the children of Israel said to them: Would to God we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat over the fleshpots, and ate bread to the full: Why have you brought us into this desert, that you might destroy all the multitude with famine?” (Ex 16:3)

1. God sends down manna: bread from heaven: “And the Lord said to

Moses: Behold I will rain bread from heaven for you…” (Ex 16:4)

2. And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another: Manhu! which signifiethWhat is this? for they knew not what it was. And Moses said to them: This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat. (Ex 16:15.)

The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The Statutes of the Lord are true, all of them just, More desirable than gold, than a hoard of purest gold, Sweeter also than honey or dripping from the comb. By them your servant is instructed, obeying them brings much reward.
