PAST AND FUTURE FULFILMENT

Passover ‐ Jesus the Lamb of God sacri6iced for us.

Unleavened Bread ‐ Holiness and cleansing from sin

Pentecost ‐ 49 days after Passover the beginning of the harvest of people into the Kingdom of God.

JESUS ACHIEVED TWO GREAT WORKS

The sacri6ice for sin

The sending of the Holy Spirit

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29, NKJV)

Jesus was given by God to be the sacri6ice for sin to save us from judgement.

John prophetically called Jesus “The Lamb of God.”

“I did not know Him, but He Who sent me to baptise with water said to me, ‘Upon Whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He Who baptises with the Holy Spirit.’” (John 1:33, NKJV)

BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

Baptise: a Greek word which means to immerse in water and change in some way.

Dirty clothes are “baptised” in soapy water and washed clean.

A white cloth is “baptised” in dye and it changes colour.

“On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will 6low rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, Whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glori6ied.” (John 7:37–39, NKJV)

JESUS HAD TO DIE SO THAT BELIEVERS COULD RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT

“Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.” (John 16:7, NKJV)

Jesus says that the presence of the Holy Spirit in the disciples will be better than having Him physically with them.

THE ACTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

It was the power of the Holy Spirit working through believers that convinced people of the truth of what they preached.

“Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them. And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralysed and lame were healed.” (Acts 8:5–7, NKJV)

“Now it happened in Iconium that they went together to the synagogue of the Jews, and so spoke that a great multitude both of the Jews and of the Greeks believed. But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brethren. Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, Who was bearing witness to the Word of His grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.” (Acts 14:1–3, NKJV)

It was only by receiving the Holy Spirit that the disciples were able to carry out Jesus’ command to “Go make and make disciples in every nation.”

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8, NKJV)

JESUS SENDS THE HOLY SPIRIT

The more the Holy Spirit directs and empowers you the more effective you will be in telling people about Jesus and making disciples.

“Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves. “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” (John 14:11–12, NKJV)

Jesus promised the disciples that He would send the Holy Spirit so that they could continue to do His work.

““If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you for ever— the Spirit of Truth, Whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” (John 14:15–17, NKJV)

After Pentecost it was not just one man (Jesus) doing great works it was all 120 believers, then 3000, then 4000, multiplying daily.

Jesus’ intention was for everyone who believed in Him and loved Him would do what He had done because they had been baptised in the Holy Spirit.

WHAT JESUS TAUGHT ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

““If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you for ever— the Spirit of truth, Whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” (John 14:15–17, NKJV)

4. He helps us to understand God’s Word and to do what Jesus did.

5. He is a Person. Never refer to the Holy Spirit as “it”.



“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My Name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” (John 14:26, NKJV)

6. The Father sends the Holy Spirit when we ask in Jesus’ Name.

7. The Spirit will teach us and remind us of Jesus’ words and teaching.



“However, when He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.” (John 16:13–14, NKJV)

8. The Holy Spirit will be a Guide to Truth.

9. He will the Go‐between, putting us in touch with God.

10. He will tell us everything Jesus and the Father want us to know.



A piece of cloth is immersed (dipped) (baptised) in the dye, the dye penetrates every 6ibre.

The cloth is still the same cloth but yet it is different.

When a person is baptised in the Holy Spirit they remain the same person but they are different.

The cloth needs to be clean to absorb the dye.

We need to be clean ‐ to have our sins washed away (forgiven) so that the Holy Spirit can penetrate every part of us.
