ਤੇ ਸੰਤ ਭਲੇ ਗੁਰਸਸਖ ਹੈ ਸਿਨ ਨਾਹੀ ਸ ੰਤ ਪਰਾਈ ਖੁਾ ॥

A Saint is a good Gursikh, they don’t care for anything other than the Lord.

ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਸਤਨਾ ਕਾ ਗੁਰ ੂਹੈ ਸਿਸੁ ਅੰਸਰਿਤ ਫਲ ਹਸਰ ਲਾਗ ੇਰੁਖਾ ॥੬॥

Blessed, blessed is their Guru, whose mouth tastes the Ambrosial Fruit of the Lord's Name. ||6||

Why we need sangat of Saints.

ਸਨਹ ਲੁ ਹਭ ਵੈਸੀ ਸੁਸਿ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਸੰਤਸੰਸਗ ਸਰਸਲ ਰਹੀਐ ॥

Listen, O wandering stranger: that which you believe to be permanent, shall all pass away; so remain in the Saints' Congregation.

What is the congregation of Saints

ਸਤਸ ਕਾ ਭਰਵਾਸਾ ਸਕਉ ਕੀਿ ੈਰਨ ਰੇਰੇ ਿੋ ਅੰਤੀ ਅਉਸਸਰ ਰਸਖ ਨ ਸਕਾਸਾ ॥

Why place your faith in anyone, O my mind, who cannot come to your rescue at the last instant?

ਹਸਰ ਿਪੁ ਰਤੁੰ ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਲੈ ਿਾਪਹ ੁਸਤਨਹਹ੍ ਅੰਸਤ ਛਡਾਏ ਸਿਨਹਹ੍ ਹਸਰ ਪਿੀਸਤ ਸ ਤਾਸਾ ॥

Chant the Lord's Mantra, take the Guru's Teachings, and meditate on Him. In the end, the Lord saves those who love Him in their consciousness

ਿਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਸਦਨੁ ਨਾਰੁ ਿਪਹ ੁਹਸਰ ਸੰਤਹ ੁਇਹ ੁਛੂਟਿ ਕਾ ਸਾ ਾ ਭਰਵਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੨॥ Servant Nanak speaks: night and day, chant the Lord's Name, O Saints; this is the only true hope for emancipation. ||4||2||

How we need to serve.

ਸੇਵਕ ਿਨ ਸੇਵਸਹ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਸਰਦ ਰਸਨ ਤਸਨ ਪਿੀਸਤ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥ The humble servant serves; one who enshrines love for the Lord in his heart, mind and body is very fortunate. ਸਿਨੁ ਪਿੀਤੀ ਕਰਸਹ ਿਹ ੁਿਾਤਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਿੋਸਲ ਕੂੜੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵ ੈ॥੩॥ One who talks too much without love, speaks falsely, and obtains only false rewards. ||3|| ਰੋ ਕਉ ਧਾਸਰ ਸਕਿਪਾ ਿਗਿੀਵਨ ਦਾਤੇ ਹਸਰ ਸੰਤ ਪਗੀ ਲੇ ਪਾਵ ੈ॥ Take pity on me, O Lord of the World, O Great Giver; let me fall at the feet of the Saints. ਹਉ ਕਾਟਉ ਕਾਸਟ ਿਾਸਿ ਸਸਰ ੁਰਾਖਉ ਸਿਤੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤੁ ਸੜ ਆਵ ੈ॥੪॥੩॥ I would cut off my head, and cut it into pieces, O Nanak, and set it down for the Saints to walk upon. ||4||3||

What is the job of the Saint.

ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਗੋਸਵੰਦ ॥

God is Merciful to the meek; He is the Lord of the World, the Lord of the Universe.

ਗੁਰਰੁਸਖ ਿਪੀਐ ਉਤਰੈ ਸ ੰਦ ॥

The Gurmukh meditates on Him, and his worries are gone.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਸਰ ਦੀਆ ਨਾਰੁ ॥

The Guru has blessed Nanak with the Naam;

ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਸੰਤ ਕਾ ਕਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੨੬॥

Serving the Saints is the Saint’s job.||4||15||26||

Saint only speaks from experience.

ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਸੁਸਿ ਸਾ ੀ ਸਾਖੀ ॥ Listen to the true story of the Saints.

ਸੋ ਿੋਲਸਹ ਿੋ ਪੇਖਸਹ ਆਖੀ ॥ They speak only of what they see with their eyes.

ਨਹੀ ਲੇਪੁ ਸਤਸੁ ਪੁੰਸਨ ਨ ਪਾਸਪ ॥ He is not involved with virtue or vice.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਪਿਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਸਪ ॥੪॥੨੫॥੩੬॥ Nanak's God is Himself all-in-all. ||4||25||36||

Make your friendship with the Saints.

ਇਹ ਲੋਕੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ I have found peace in this world. ਨਹੀ ਭੇਟਤ ਧਰਰ ਰਾਇਆ ॥ I will not have to appear before the Righteous Judge of Dharma to give my account. ਹਸਰ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤ ॥ I will be respected in the Court of the Lord, ਫਸੁਨ ਗਰਸਭ ਨਾਹੀ ਿਸੰਤ ॥੧॥ and I will not have to enter the womb of reincarnation ever again. ||1|| ਿਾਨੀ ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਸਰਤਿਾਈ ॥ Now, I know the value of friendship with the Saints. ਕਸਰ ਸਕਰਪਾ ਦੀਨੋ ਹਸਰ ਨਾਰਾ ਪੂਰਸਿ ਸਿੰੋਸਗ ਸਰਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ In His Mercy, the Lord has blessed me with His Name. My pre-ordained destiny has been fulfilled. ||1||Pause||

Your bad habits will curse you.

ਿੋਲੈ ਝੂਠੁ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਅਵਰਾ ਸਤਿਸਨ ਨ ਿੂਝੈ ਿਹਤੁੁ ਹਇਆ ॥ You tell lies, and do not practice what you preach. Your desires are not satisfied - what a shame.

ਅਸਾਧ ਰੋਗੁ ਉਪਸਿਆ ਸੰਤ ਦਖੂਸਨ ਦੇਹ ਸਿਨਾਸੀ ਰਹਾ ਖਇਆ ॥੩॥ You have contracted an incurable disease; slandering the Saints, your body is wasting away; you are utterly ruined. ||3||

Japna is the first step in this path.

ਸਿਉ ਪਾਵਕ ਸੰਸਗ ਸੀਤ ਕੋ ਨਾਸ ॥ As cold is dispelled by fire,

ਐਸੇ ਪਿਾਛਤ ਸੰਤਸੰਸਗ ਸਿਨਾਸ ॥ sins are driven out in the Society of the Saints.

ਸਿਉ ਸਾਿੁਸਨ ਕਾਪਰ ਊਿਲ ਹੋਤ ॥ As cloth is cleaned by soap,

ਨਾਰ ਿਪਤ ਸਭੁ ਭਿਰੁ ਭਉ ਖੋਤ ॥੫॥ just so, by chanting the Naam, all doubts and fears are dispelled. ||5||

A Saint never leaves Gurbani.

ਆਵਹ ੁਸੰਤ ਰੈ ਗਸਲ ਰੇਲਾਈਐ ॥ Come, O Saints, and lead me to my Lord's Embrace.

ਰੇਰੇ ਪਿੀਤਰ ਕੀ ਰੈ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਿਾਈਐ ॥ Recite to me the Sermon of my Beloved.

ਹਸਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਸਰਲਹ ੁਰਨੁ ਦੇਵਾ ਿੋ ਗੁਰਿਾਿੀ ਰੁਸਖ ਉਦਾ ਿੀਉ ॥੨॥ I dedicate my mind to those Saints of the Lord, who chant the Word of the Guru's Bani with their mouths. ||2||
