Welcome to the Lorax Campaign.

Our Brother Legion seeks to educate, equip, and empower faith communities to create better belonging and practical ministries for

people with mental illness, addiction, and trauma.

I chose the Lorax for the theme of this fundraiser. It’s a very principled book with creative pedagogy.

Our Brother Legion identifies with galvanizing instruction based on empathy and personal

empowerment.

The Lorax emerged from the stump and

declared that he “spoke for

trees.”He expressed his purpose with clarity. Raising money might not be fun, but it provides

opportunities for addressing purpose.

Our Brother LegionEngages faith communities and people of good will to be more informed and more confident in their abilities to create belonging to people with mental illness, addiction, and trauma. We’re not trying to create clinicians (doctors, social workers, therapists, etc.) out of the world. We’re trying to empower people to know that basic approaches and aptitudes can make meaningful and healthy intercession for people who struggle and/or suffer.

We’re also trying to end stigma.

Such as, blue trees? Big deal. Blue trees flower to make a beautiful world of diversity and

difference.

Financial Realities

My Dad has funded Our Brother Legion almost 100%. I applied for thousands of jobs, not just church jobs, from March 2012 to Fall 2015. I started working Our Brother Legion full-time with my Father’s consent. When I said that he served as my care-giver, it’s so much more.

Our Brother Legion is a

new organization. We are working to build an

organization strong on concepts, on people, and on

fundamentally sound business principles.

I don’t have a salary yet but we do need to pay expenses such as website,

webmaster, some art supplies (for non-offensive art on Our Brother Legion

website), and Constant Contact.

Where We’re GoingWake Forest Law Clinic has our information so that we will become a 501(c)3 maybe by December 2016.

All contributions in the state of NC under $26,500 count as charity.

I am actively looking for a grants manager. I also need someone to work with me to pen a business plan.

We have a viable Board and by-laws.

Who speaks for people living with mental illness, addiction, and trauma? I try to speak to chronically

normal folks and to people with compromised bodies during

the Tuesday Talk/Friday Flyer essays.

Page 15: Lorax Campaign

Germination of ideas, Creation of Ministries, Building diversity

of skills Tuesday Talks/Friday Flyers are now two different publications. If the numbers hold up, I’m going to continue both because faith communities, clergy, and laity are woefully behind in understanding differentiated bodies and its consequences. I hope to write a pastoral emphasis and a prophetic/philosophical emphasis each week so we can cover more ground. The essays are just a start. Our public discourse and our common knowledge practices about mental illness are woefully discordant to the reality (the numbers and the awful).

Our Brother Legion does not serve an individual, a congregation, a denomination, or a religion

exclusively. We present a uniquely viable way to create the kind of

acceptance and health that we need unless we prioritize building bridges.

But conviction is part of the financial equation, too.

Maybe you feel perfectly healthy about money.

What I know best is that individuals can make a difference in this world.

Money is one aspect of creating a difference.
