Occupy Until I Come Napoleon Bonaparte, a lousy theologian

but great in military matters said “the object of war is victory but the object of victory is occupation.”

Luke 19:11-13 And as they heard these things, he

added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. 12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. 13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

Business is BusinessBusiness is Business Luke 19:11-13 [Living Bible] Now as they heard these things, He spoke

another parable, because He was near Jerusalem and because they thought the kingdom of God would appear immediately.12 Therefore He said: “A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return.13 “So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business till I come.’[

God is a Business Man! God demands that we manage His resources Management and Strategy is important. Luke 19:17 17 “And he said to him, ‘Well done, good

servant; because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.’

Business is BusinessBusiness is Business This is Kingdom Business as must be treated as such.

What then is the greatest resource God has on the earth?

People, for whom He died! Therefore the greatest resource we can mobilize will be the people God has given to us to care for.

Empowering God’s people would have to be a priority with us.

Page 5: Managing the 21st century church

Empowerment!Empowerment! To pay taxes Jesus instructed Peter to go fishing and in the mouth of the fish a coin was found. The principle here is: The money is in the mouth of the fish. [Peter is now a fisher of Men]

What's our assignment with God’s FlockEzekiel 34:10‘Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require My flock at their hand; I will cause them to cease feeding the sheep, and the shepherds shall feed themselves no more; for I will deliver My flock from their mouths, that they may no longer be food for them.”

Pastor’s Job DescriptionPastor’s Job Description“Understanding”Jeremiah 3:15 “And I will give you shepherds

according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs 24:3-4 Through wisdom a house is built, And

by understanding it is established; 4 By knowledge the rooms are filled With all precious and pleasant riches.

Dual Nature of Ministry Many Church leaders fall short of

their dreams because they fail to fully appreciate the dual nature of ministry-that is both spiritual and natural.

Many veer toward one of the extremes either being spiritually idealistic or pragmatically technique driven.

Ministry that recognizes both the spiritual and natural dimensions is sort of the skillfulness that King David had.

Page 8: Managing the 21st century church

Dual Nature of MinistryPsalm 78:72 So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, And guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

Leaders who like King David have not only integrity and spirituality to lead the people of God but also have specific skills.

David’s ministry was both relevant and timely. He served Gods purpose [which is eternal and unchanging] in his generation [which was current and changing]

He served the timeless in a timely way. He was both orthodox and contemporary, biblical and relevant.”[6 o clock Christian]

Joseph’s StoryJoseph’s StoryA great Example of the duality of our MinistrySpiritually, He interpreted DreamsGenesis 41:15-1615 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have had a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that you can understand a dream, to interpret it.” 16 So Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.”

Josephs interpretation was the revelation from God for Egypt.

Page 10: Managing the 21st century church

Joseph’s StoryJoseph’s StoryThe practical side of Joseph’s ministry was proffering a solution. Note it is more than praying and fasting.Genesis 41:33-36 “Now therefore, let Pharaoh select a discerning and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt.34 “Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, to collect one-fifth of the produce of the land of Egypt in the seven plentiful years.35 “And let them gather all the food of those good years that are coming, and store up grain under the authority of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.36 “Then that food shall be as a reserve for the land for the seven years of famine which shall be in the land of Egypt, that the land may not perish during the famine.”

Page 11: Managing the 21st century church

Joseph’s StoryJoseph’s Story20% for 7 years = 140% of 1 years harvest. Please note the effect!

Genesis 47:20, 2320 Then Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for every man of the Egyptians sold his field, because the famine was severe upon them. So the land became Pharaoh’s.

It gets even better in verse 23 Then Joseph said to the people, “Indeed I have bought you and your land this day for Pharaoh. Look, here is seed for you, and you shall sow the land.

Page 12: Managing the 21st century church

Joseph’s StoryJoseph’s StoryGenesis 47:24-26 “And it shall come to pass in the harvest that you shall give one-fifth to Pharaoh. Four-fifths shall be your own, as seed for the field and for your food, for those of your households and as food for your little ones.”25 So they said, “You have saved our lives; let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s servants.”26 And Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt to this day, that Pharaoh should have one-fifth, except for the land of the priests only, which did not become Pharaoh’s.

This is the power of investment ad empowerment that God uses prosper His people.

The bible is a picture The bible is a picture bookbook Direct access to God allows Him to

paint a picture of His will and purposes for your and for His kingdom.

The bible is a picture book Its also a book of language – logos Words that come out of our mouth

creates images because we are an image nation or imagination,

Its important we are surrounded with right images and atmosphere.

Page 14: Managing the 21st century church

The bible is a picture The bible is a picture bookbook Words create pictures “ELEPHANT”

Try to think about that without seeing a picture.

You cant say it without seeing it. Every word spoken in a common language creates a picture.

That is why when we try teach people about something new we use the object or its image to connect people with the word.

PICTURE & WORD is the easiest way to learn so it is with God.

The like as principleThe like as principleRomans 1:20 KJVFor the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

God uses the visible things to show the invisible things of him.

In other words the invisible things are like or as the things we find in nature, the things made!

The like as principle – Mark Hanby

Lets look again Psalms 1:3 KJV (3) And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,

Man who dwells and walks in the Spirit.. New language, new meaning, new revelation!

Jesus is The Way – Revelation Jesus is The Truth – Revolution Jesus is The Life - Reformation This is the crucial point, where “The Word becomes Flesh” and a great challenge that’s why we stayed with truth and have been stuck on doctrine

The Prophet Samuel was going to anoint the king based on what he saw, notice God did not say who it was but who it wasn’t.

We have also being trying to build on other peoples images!

Page 24: Managing the 21st century church

The Church is a process like a river Matthew 4:19 19 Then He said to them,

“Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”[1]

Psalm 1:3 3 He shall be like a tree

Planted by the rivers of water, Like success is a journey not a

destination!

Page 25: Managing the 21st century church

The Church is a Process like a River Both rivers and lakes work

differently. Lakes are fairly limited in what

they can do: grow or shrink. Rivers however go somewhere

they change and move on. Though made of the same stuff as

lakes, rivers have momentum that transports people and goods-to take them father along than when they first joined the river

Page 26: Managing the 21st century church

Process Thinking is Kingdom Thinking Ephesians 4:11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,

He now tells us why? V12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,

Page 27: Managing the 21st century church

Process Thinking is Kingdom Thinking If we have done the work of the ministry totally within the church why would need to equip the saints to do the work of the ministry because there is a ministry outside the church.

As we have Apostles in church have we considered: Apostles in the market place like Bill Gates who break new grounds.

Prophets in the secular world like stock brokers with an anointing to predict trends in the world economy.

Page 28: Managing the 21st century church

Process Thinking is Kingdom Thinking Evangelists the world greatest salesmen like Coca cola marketing company selling the world a drink has actually does more harm when taken in excess with a marking budget of over 5 billion dollars. Teachers we all products of an educational system with dedicated teachers who make sacrifices for their students. Pastors are like care groups Alcoholic Anonymous helping people get over addictions but then again every man is the pastor of his family.

Page 29: Managing the 21st century church

Process Thinking is Kingdom Thinking Luke 16:8 And the lord commended the unjust

steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light

In other words the children of this world know how to use the principles of this world to profit [Bribery, etc relationships, power of the occult and secret societies] while children of Light are yet to bring to bear Christian principles prayers etc to achieve success.

He called us to preach the gospel of the kingdom!

Page 30: Managing the 21st century church

Process Thinking is Kingdom Thinking Matthew 4:23 23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.

God is breaking through limitations in individuals all over the earth.

People in a lake swim back to shore to retrieve their towels and belongings-the same shore from which they entered the lake. River goers don’t have the luxury [temptation], of because the current has taken them further than were when they got into the water.

Page 31: Managing the 21st century church

Designing the Process We limit everything to get them

saved, get them, baptized and get them ready for heaven but there is a problem.

We have actually got to go the next step and say, if we can only think in terms of our systems, invading kingdoms.

Unintentionally, leaders often have approached church as though it were a lake rather than a river.

Page 32: Managing the 21st century church

Designing the Process Church becomes a place to collect more and more people – as many as possible.

Success is measured by the size of the lake than by what happens to the people in it.

Even if the lake is growing it is often static, without currents, lacking direction for how members should progress in faith.

We are the light of the World not the light of the church.

Page 33: Managing the 21st century church

Designing the Process If someone leaves the church, leaders interpret it as a loss or failure [ unless the person enters vocational ministry] therefore most pastors do not want people leaving, but the reality in many places is that majority will move on in five to seven years. We do not have forever to shape people. If we conduct ministry as though everybody in our church today will always be in our church, we will have no sense of urgency and no purposeful design.

Page 34: Managing the 21st century church

Designing the Process There are 7 key mountains and you

are actually an army of God poised in a generation that is ready to take mountains and when we do. These are the seven mind molders of society

1. GOVERNMENT. 2. RELIGION. 3. MEDIA. 4. EDUCATION 5. BUSINESS, TECHNOLOGY and

SCIENCE. 6. ARTS, ENTERTAINMENT and SPORTS 7. FAMILY

Page 35: Managing the 21st century church

What’s our Job anyway? For Satan to control the systems of the world, He only has to control the high places.

That’s why things in the Old Testament were judged on 2 things:

1. Did they rule righteously? 2. Did they take the high places? 2 Chronicles 20:31-33 2 Chronicles 14:1-5 2 Chronicles 17:1-6

Page 36: Managing the 21st century church

What’s our Job anyway? Right now, you and I are being

judged on two basis as king and priests:

Are we walking all to the word righteously [ This has been our emphasis up till now]

And are we taking the high places? [This is where we are going]

Not merely singing, talking and walking around them but actually occupying entertainment, occupying technology, occupying media occupying government etc that’s our call!

Page 37: Managing the 21st century church

What’s our Job anyway? Process thinking realizes that

most of what needs to happen to people wont just happen on its own in an instant.

The process must be directed and cultivated over time by skilful leaders

So the church is going to go through a radical reformation in the next few years to accommodate this agenda.

Page 38: Managing the 21st century church

We cannot win the world with only tithes FAVOUR Luke 1:26-38 28 And having come in, the angel

said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”

30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God

It is an attraction of God to you, that releases an influence in you so that others are inclined to cooperate with you.

Page 39: Managing the 21st century church

We cannot win the world with only tithesIt’s the favour or charisma of Christ that immediately begins to take over the environment around you causing everything to move towards the accomplishment of the assignment that you’re been given.

Favour is not given to people it’s given to assignment and then God invites people to join Him in the assignment.

Page 40: Managing the 21st century church

We cannot win the world with only tithes John 3:6-8 6 “That which is born of the

flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Notice it does not say he that is born but that which is born so it includes living and non living things it includes ideas investments etc.

And that thing that is conceived inside of you is called desire.

Page 41: Managing the 21st century church

We cannot win the world with only tithes It literally means that when something is conceived on inside of you, it’s of the Father that put it there.

The church has to reconfigure itself to equip people for the gospel of the kingdom and then we’ve got to train our prayer warriors not just for a good anointing on a Sunday, we’ve got to pray for you to take your mountain.

Page 42: Managing the 21st century church

We cannot win the world with only tithes

When a person is highly charged with the force of favour, suddenly resources come to them, divine appointments ambush them, and connections take place

ONE OF THE BIGGESST MISTAKES YOU CAN EVER MAKE IS TO THINK THAT YOU WORK FOR ANYONE BUT GOD & YOURSELF.

Page 43: Managing the 21st century church

What about Pastors and leaders Ephesians 6:5-7 Slaves, obey your earthly masters

with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. 6 Work hard, but not just to please your masters when they are watching. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart. 7 Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

’’Unless you really enjoy what you are doing, you will never be able to develop the enthusiasm, commitment and dedication necessary to rise above and push through the difficulties, challenges, and setbacks that every job or challenge contains.’’- Brian Tracy

Page 44: Managing the 21st century church

What about Pastors and What about Pastors and leadersleaders What is your business? Do you own it? If not it is your

profession There is a big difference

between your profession and your business.

The secret is: mind your own business.

Financial struggle is often directly the result of people working all their life for someone else

Page 45: Managing the 21st century church

What about Pastors and leaders It all begins with your sitting down and deciding what you really want out of life, a job, ministry as well as what you don’t want and then taking action to achieve the goal..

Profession : a calling requiring specialized knowledge and often long and intensive academic preparation b : a principal calling, vocation, or employment c : the whole body of persons engaged in a calling

Business: a usually commercial or mercantile activity engaged in as a means of livelihood.

Page 46: Managing the 21st century church

What about Pastors and leadersWhat about Pastors and leaders These definitions and the article clearly shows the need for us to rethink our attitude to wealth, to our jobs or employment, and even to ministry, recognizing that the key to financial independence is utilizing the power or ability to make wealth and create wealth for many generations There is a big difference between

he office of a pastor and the call of God and the ministry you have been called into.

You must find your ministry, the vision for your life for that is where you will find the provision
