your book is written, how shall

it read? With the Holy Spirit’s

lead, you decide. What do you

want it to say? Now, go live

that way!

.

Some folks read books as

fast as a kid goes through a bag of

M & Ms. Others chew on a few

books like a dog enjoying some

favorite bones.

Somewhere, Teddy

Roosevelt said, “I am a little bit of

every book I ever read.”

We learn from books.

Your life is like a living book,

currently being written. And as

you write it, others are reading it,

especially your loved ones.

Parents, take note. Your

children are a little bit of what

they read from your life! Maybe

they become a lot of what they

read from your life! From the pint

-sized and the super-sized things

you do, they are absorbing “how

to live” from your story.

Consider where you go, or

don’t go. If only mom takes the

kids to worship and dad stays

home, what kind of a message is

that sending? If a person stays

out late partying, little readers see

that. As you handle

disagreements, they are reading

your every action.

Lead by example.

The examples you

display on the pages

of your life impact

your children

profoundly. The

same is true if you are a husband

or a wife, a friend or a neighbor,

a co-worker, grandparent, aunt or

uncle. Others are reading your

book. What do they see?

And more important than

the conduct of life in your story

is the question, “Who is the main

character, yourself or the

Savior?” Christ is our Redeemer

as well as our life-model, our

Master Storyteller! We need to

be reminded that His love at the

cross and His rising mean a life

of responsive and responsible

living.

Where is your story

going? Are you following or

feeling your way? Think about

your words and movements

before you act on them, before

you write them on the pages of

your life history.

Study the difference

between virtues and vice and

pick one, then live it, and your

book shall be written one way

or the other. Learn the

difference between following

Christ and following self-will.

Learn the difference between

worldly desire and inner

contentment that comes in

Christ.

yet, we feel His presence in

Jeff's recovery. It will be a

long road, but we are

assured of God's promise

that all will be well for

those who trust in Him. We

still will pray for renewed

health and patience during

this experience. Our God is

so great! What would we do

without Him?

Praise God from

whom all blessings

flow! Praise Him, all

creatures here below!

Praise Him above, all

heavenly hosts! Praise

Father, Son and Holy

Ghost! Amen!

Thank you!

With love in Jesus,

Jeff and Faye Hovland

Dear Friends,

We at the Hovland

household are praising God

for our friends at Our

Saviour Lutheran

Church! Thank you all for

the many prayers

concerning Jeff's recent

heart surgery. How

comforting it is to know

that so many prayers were

lifted up for our family

during this very trying

time. Our wonderful

Heavenly Father heard

those prayers and answered

them with a successful

bypass for Jeff and He

added the blessing of peace

in our hearts.

We felt the warmth

of His presence throughout

the hospital stay and even

OSLC official acts St. Paul tells us

in Philippians 4:9,

“Those things, which

ye have both learned,

and received, and

heard, and seen in me,

do…” Saint Paul

meant, as you read

from life-story, write

the same in your own

life-story.

In the film, “The Last

Samurai,” someone

asks how a lead

character died. The

witness replies, “I will

not tell you how he

died, but how he lived.”

And likewise, go and

live for Christ, and he

will bless every page of

your story.

We are celebrating all the volunteers of Our Saviour. Do you usher, work the fish fries, help with the grounds upkeep, provide office help or serve on a board? You are all volunteers and all very valuable to the mission here at Our Saviour. As a token of appreciation to all the volunteers (servants) of the church, we will be holding a potluck will be on Sunday, May 15, at 10:30 a.m. in the gym. There will be no 10:45 a.m. service that day. Bring your best dish to serve with a smile to celebrate the gifts and time OSLC servants have provided.

Add this year’s

vacation Bible school to your

calendar today and check out

the registration form on the

next page. We invite you to

join us Monday, June 27

through Thursday, June 30

from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00

p.m.

Prekindergarten,

kindergarten and first grade

students will use the

“PandaMania” theme led by

Our Saviour volunteers. Camp

Luther will, again, lead our

children in second through

fifth grades. Prekindergarten

children must be at least

three years of age by

September 1, 2010 and must

be potty-trained.

Currently VBS is in

need of volunteers. Middle

school and older students

(including college age) and

adults are needed for many

areas! If you work and

cannot volunteer during our

scheduled hours, you can help

by providing some of the

snacks and supplies for

crafts or games. Watch the

weekly announcement sheets

for details.

If you have any

questions, please call Donna

Biebel at 468-5547.

Vacation Bible school is just around the corner!

Salad ingredients:

Kosher salt

3/4 pound green beans, trimmed and halved

3/4 pound yellow wax beans, trimmed and halved

One 14-ounce can dark-red kidney beans, drained and rinsed

One 14-ounce can black-eyed peas, drained and rinsed

One 14-ounce can garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed

1 bunch scallions, white and light-green parts, thinly sliced

1 red (or orange or yellow) bell pepper, diced

2 tablespoons chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves, for garnish

2 tablespoons chopped fresh marjoram or oregano leaves (optional)

1 recipe of champagne vinaigrette (listed below) - 1 garlic clove, finely chopped - 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard - 1/4 cup champagne vinegar - 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice - 2 tablespoons honey - 2 or 3 dashes hot sauce - 1/2 teaspoon salt - 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper - 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil

Freshly ground black pepper

Hot sauce Salad prep: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add a generous sprinkling of salt and the fresh beans, and cook until the beans are just tender, about 8 minutes. Drain the beans in a colander, and shock in ice water to stop the cooking process. Drain again and set aside. Place the fresh and canned beans, scallions, bell pepper, parsley, marjoram, and Champagne Vinaigrette in a large bowl, and toss to combine. Season the salad to taste with salt, pepper, and hot sauce.

Vinaigrette prep: Whisk together the garlic, mustard, vinegar, lemon juice, honey, hot sauce, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Slowly whisk in the olive oil until the dressing is emulsified. Alternatively, you can combine all the ingredients in a blender or a food processor and puré until smooth.

"Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And who ever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. " Matt. 18:4-5 Johnny's mother looked out the window and noticed him "playing church" with their cat. He had the cat sitting quietly and he was preaching to it. She smiled and went about her work. A while later she heard loud meowing and hissing

and ran back to the open window to see Johnny baptizing the cat in a tub of water. She called out, "Johnny, stop that! The cat is afraid of water!" Johnny looked up at her and said, "He should have thought about that before he joined my church." Knowing scripture can save your life - in more ways than one!
