1. Team Players

Collectivists – work with others See government as a ‘team’ game

2. Self-Driven Commanders

Ambitious for themselves. Ideas/aims – all linked to personal goals.

3. Ideological Commanders

Have ‘big’ ideas, grand designs. Aims and goals derived from philosophy and

ideology.

4. Managers

Safe pair of hands. Bureaucrats. Style determined more by pragmatism than

personal goals or ideology.

5. Agents of the Prime Minister

Loyal. Owe allegiance mainly to PM. Willing to carry out the wishes of the PM.

6. Civil Service Agents

Less confident/able? Guided mainly by advice from Civil Servants.

7. EU Agents

EU as key motivating factor. Aim to fulfil EU treaty obligations is most

important part of the job.
