Slavery to the Law Acts 13:38-39

that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is

proclaimed to you. Through him everyone

who believes is set free from every sin, a

justification you were not able to obtain

Slavery to the Law

Romans 8:15 15 For you did not receive a spirit

that makes you a slave again to

fear, but you received the Spirit of

sonship. And by him we cry,

“Abba, Father.”

Slavery to Sin John 8:31-36 To the Jews who had believed

him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching,

you are really my disciples. Then you will

know the truth, and the truth will set you

free.” They answered him, “We are

Abraham‟s descendants and have never

been slaves of anyone. How can you say

that we shall be set free?”

Page 21: Sermon 11.13.11

True Freedom

Slavery to Sin John 8:31-36 Jesus replied, “I tell you the

truth, everyone who sins is a slave to

sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in

the family, but a son belongs to it forever.

So if the Son sets you free,

you will be free indeed.

2 Corinthians 5:14-15

For Christ‟s love compels us, because we

are convinced that one died for all, and

therefore all died. And he died for all, that

those who live should no longer live for

themselves but for him who died for them

and was raised again.

Deuteronomy 15:16-17

But if your servant says to you, “I do not

want to leave you,” because he loves you

and your family and is well off with

you, 17 then take an awl and push it through

his ear lobe into the door, and he will

become your servant for life. Do the same

for your maidservant.

Psalm 40:6-8

6 Sacrifice and offering you did not desire,

but my ears you have pierced; burnt

offerings and sin offerings you did not

require. 7 Then I said, “Here I am, I have

come— it is written about me in the scroll. 8 I desire to do your will, O my God;

your law is within my heart.”

FREEDOM FOR SLAVERY

“In (21st) century Christianity we have replaced the expression „total

surrender‟ with the word „commitment,‟ and „slave‟ with „servant.‟ But there is

an important difference. A servant gives service to someone, but a slave

belongs to someone. We commit ourselves to do something, but when we surrender ourselves to someone,

we give ourselves up.”

FREEDOM THROUGH SLAVERY

Galatians 5:13-15

You, my brothers, were called to be free. But

do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful

nature; rather, serve one another in love. The

entire law is summed up in a single command:

“Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you keep

on biting and devouring each other, watch out

or you will be destroyed by each other.
