STAND UP (for what the Holy Spirit convicts
you about)
Stand up:Defend, resist or rise up
Cross the boundary and get on your standpoint.
Confront!
3 Those who are wise will shine likethe brightness of the heavens, andthose who lead many torighteousness, like the stars forever and ever.
19 My dear brothers and sisters, ifsomeone among you wandersaway from the truth and is broughtback, 20 you can be sure thatwhoever brings the sinner backfrom wandering will save thatperson from death and bring aboutthe forgiveness of many sins.
TWO EXTREMITIES TO AVOID IN
CONFRONTATION
1Unwillingness
(shows the position of heart)
2Unloving
(shows the content of heart)
IN CONFRONTING OTHERS, BE
SIGNIFICANT FIRST WITH THEM.
God will establish first His authority in our lives before we
could confront others lovingly.
a
As we learn to receive correction from God, we can become ready to confront others.
b
God will make a way to establish our authority to the person we are to
confront.
c
Thru Daniel’s account, God shows how He makes a way for a Christian to be
significant to the person he will confront.
1 In the second year of the reign ofNebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar haddreams; his spirit was troubled, andhis sleep left him. 2 Then the kingcommanded that the magicians, theenchanters, the sorcerers, and theChaldeans be summoned to tell theking his dreams. So they come in andstood before the king.
3 And the king said to them, “I had adream, and my spirit is troubled toknow the dream.” 4 Then theChaldeans said to the king inAramaic, “O king, live forever! Tell yourservants the dream, and we will showthe interpretation.”
5 The king answered and said to theChaldeans, “The word from me is firm:if you do not make known to me thedream and its interpretation, you shallbe torn limb from limb, andyour houses shall be laid in ruins. 6Butif you show the dream and itsinterpretation, you shall receive fromme gifts and rewards and greathonor. Therefore show me the dreamand its interpretation.”
16 And Daniel went in and requestedthe king to appoint him a time, that hemight show the interpretation to theking.
Thus, in time when God will have to deal with Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel’s
authority has already been established so he may confront the king willingly
and lovingly.
10 The visions of my head as I lay in bedwere these: I saw, and behold, a treein the midst of the earth, and itsheight was great. 11 The tree grew andbecame strong, and its top reached toheaven, and it was visible to the end ofthe whole earth….
13 “I saw in the visions of my head as Ilay in bed, and behold, a watcher, aholy one, came down fromheaven. 14 He proclaimed aloud andsaid thus: ‘Chop down the tree and lopoff its branches, strip off its leaves andscatter its fruit. Let the beasts fleefrom under it and the birds from itsbranches….
1Daniel stood up for it is the right thing to
do and he wants the king to know God.
22 it is you, O king, who have grownand become strong. Your greatnesshas grown and reaches to heaven, andyour dominion to the ends of theearth.
25 that you shall be driven from amongmen, and your dwelling shall be withthe beasts of the field. You shall bemade to eat grass like an ox, and youshall be wet with the dew of heaven, and seven periods of time shall passover you, till you know that the MostHigh rules the kingdom of men andgives it to whom he will.
2 Daniel could have stopped after
interpreting the dream, but he
lovingly confronted the king.
27 Therefore, O king, let my counsel beacceptable to you: break off your sinsby practicing righteousness, and youriniquities by showing mercy to theoppressed, that there may perhaps bea lengthening of your prosperity.”
PRAYERFULCONFRONTATION
Dear brothers and sisters, if anotherbeliever is overcome by some sin, youwho are godly should gently andhumbly help that person back onto theright path. And be careful not to fallinto the same temptation yourself.
God, help me confront with the
goal of restoration.
a
God, help me confront with
caution.
b
Daniel confronted the king but he didnot turn to God immediately.
But Daniel stood up and trusted Godwith the results.
34 “After this time had passed, I,Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. My sanity returned, and I praised andworshiped the Most High and honoredthe one who lives forever.
We stand up to move others to see God’s love for them.
For the LORD corrects those He loves, just as a father corrects a child inwhom he delights.
