It is a continuation of the Yahwist story of

creation.

What happened?The first parents of the human race were tempted to disobey God.

This allowed evil came into God’s creation.

Satan tempted the first parents to disobey and ignore God because they thought it would lead to true happiness.

By experiencing evil, the first parents damaged their relationship with God through an act of disobedience.

This disobedience resulted in people experiencing sufferings. They were no longer in harmony with God, creation, themselves or others.

These sufferings were not part of God’s original plan in the creation people but the result of disobedience (also known as original sin) and the loss of harmony with God, others and creation.

What happened?The first parents came to see the

world and each other differently as

a result of their sin.

They experience evil for the first

time and failed to see each other as

a whole person.

Without God ,they were left to their

purely human understanding.

They would suffer in ways God

never intended and would be

subject to moral temptations by the

devil and capable of sin.

What happened?

The couple’s guilt after their sin caused them to feel distant from God.

Sin causes guilt in people which causes conflicts with God and not being able to relate to him through prayer or worship.

This original sin led to tensions between the first parents and this is the basic cause of tensions between people and nations.

By taking the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, the first parents became confused about what is good and what is evil.
