Team Spirit: The 'We' Winner Concept Francis E. Madojemu
The organization that exists for its non members
The Church is everywhere in the
world.
There are villages that have little else, but they
do have a church.
The Church is the most magnificent
concept ever created.
The organization that exists for its non members
It has survived persistent abuse, horrifying persecution, and
widespread neglect.
Yet despite its faults (due to our sinfulness), it is still God’s chosen instrument of blessing and has been
for 2,000 years. - Rick Warren
The organization that exists for its non members
The Church will last for eternity, and
because it is God’s instrument for
ministry here on Earth, it is truly the
greatest force on the face of the Earth.
The organization that exists for its non members
That’s why I believe tackling the world’s
biggest problems – the giants of spiritual
lostness, egocentric leadership, poverty,
disease, and ignorance – can only be done through the
Church. - Rick Warren
The Concept of "We" Begins with God!
Genesis 1:26
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our
likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over
the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
The Concept of "We" Begins with God!
Isaiah 6:8
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
One is too small a number By John C Maxwell
A Chinese proverb states, “Behind an able man there are always other
able men.”
The truth is that teamwork is at the
heart of great achievement.
(Even your life -Outliers)
One is too small a number By John C Maxwell
The question isn’t whether teams have
value.
The question is whether we
acknowledge that fact and become
better team players.
One is too small a number By John C Maxwell
That’s why I assert that one is too
small a number to achieve greatness.
You cannot do anything of real
value alone.
One is too small a number By John C Maxwell
I challenge you to think of one act of genuine
significance in the history of humankind that was
performed by a lone human being.
No matter what you name, you will find that a
team of people was involved
One is too small a number By John C Maxwell
That is why former US President Lyndon
Johnson said, “There are no problems we
cannot solve together, and very few that we can
solve by ourselves.”
One is too small a number By John C Maxwell
C. Gene Wilkes, in his book, Jesus on Leadership, observed that the
power of teams not only is evident in today’s modern
business world, but it also has a deep history that is evident even in
biblical times
TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK
Great TEAMWORK makes things happen
more than anything else in organisations – more than skill, qualifications
or money!
Whether it’s your Family, Church, Ministry,
Business, Personal life
TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK
A well known football manager once commented in
an interview
"It’s easy to get good players. It’s getting them to
play together that’s the hard part!"
Dictionary definition =
The COMBINED effective ACTION of a group or
team to achieve a common goal (vision).
Other Definitions…
" Teamwork means that we share a common ideal, Embrace a common goal. Regardless of our differences,
we strive shoulder to shoulder, Confident in one another’s faith,
trust, and commitment
Other Definitions…
In the end, teamwork can be summed up in five short words....
We believe in each other." " Teamwork is the FUEL that allows
Common People To Produce Uncommon Results!"
TEAMWORK in the Bible?
In the Beginning God said to Adam ‘it is not good that man should be alone’,
Noah & his family, Nehemiah built wall in 52 days with a
team,
TEAMWORK in the Bible?
Moses had a team of leaders around
him,
Jesus & 12 Disciples (one could argue constructed
greatest team ever),
TEAMWORK in the Bible?
Paul & Silas, Barnabas & Mark,
Gideon’s 300 etc…
Nehemiah and his teams rebuilding
the wall of Jerusalem
The Tower of Babel
Genesis 11:1-6
1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there.
The Tower of Babel
Genesis 11:1-6
3 Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar. 4 And they
said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make
a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”
The Tower of Babel
Genesis 11:1-6
5 But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. 6 And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is
what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from
them.
The Tower of Babel
One of the stories that sticks out to me is – the Tower of
Babel is a picture of what can be achieved by a team that is
UNITED – speech, actions,
thoughts, goals, the vision
There is no unity without purpose
It's unity of purpose not doctrinal unity
What would you be doing of man did not fall- Myles Munroe
Best Teacher in America
There is no unity without purpose
Purpose deals with why?
Means vs Ends - We have tried to get
unity in methodology rather than in
purpose and destiny
Motive and purpose should shape our methodology
Truth is the Key!
I find it very interesting that the beloved Apostle John, the one that some would call the apostle of love, says toward the
close of his life, "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children
are walking in the truth" (3 Jn 1:4).
Truth is the Key!
No greater joy than to hear what? That his children are walking in the truth. Not love or
unity, but truth.
Why? - Very simple: love and unity will not bring truth, but truth can bring both
unity and love. Biblical unity is beautiful because it has depth and it stands on truth
Let's talk about
another we have
completely ignored!
2 KINDS
OF MINISTRIES
Why?
95% of us would have bi vocational ministry by ignoring this we are under utilizing 95% of God given resources

2 different kinds of ministries
Ministry to the Saints Ephesians 4:7-12
7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.8
Therefore He says: 1 “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.”9
(Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of
the earth?
2 different kinds of ministries
Ministry to the Saints Ephesians 4:7-12
10 He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might
fill all things.)11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,12 for the
equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,

Psalm 68:18
18 You have ascended on high, You have led captivity captive; You have
received gifts among men, Even from the rebellious, That the Lord
God might dwell there.

1 Corinthians 12:28
28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that
miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.

Ministry of the Saints 1 Corinthians 16:15-16
15 I urge you, brethren—you know the household of Stephanas, that it is the
firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves to the ministry of the saints—16 that you also submit to such, and to everyone who works and labors with us.
2 different kinds of ministries
This is the balance we must bring back
to the Body of Christ!
The balance we must bring to this HOUSE!
We must make up our minds NOW!
Different purpose: TO THE SAINTS
Ephesians 4:12
12 for the equipping of saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the
body of Christ, or (MSG) to train Christians in skilled servant work,
working within Christ's body, the church
Different purpose: TO THE SAINTS
To identify their ministry, to bring them into their full potential.
Church is supposed to be school to learn, to grow the saints
for the work of their ministry.
Different purpose: TO THE SAINTS
Purpose of School teachers and
administrators is to give the students an
education and graduate them.

To fulfill DESTINY not just PURPOSE
Purpose is sterile and does not reproduce and when you stop
fulfilling purpose like a machine you are
replaced.
Takes place outside the church but if people are good with
children we put them in children's church within church.
To fulfill DESTINY not just PURPOSE
Its for you to fulfill your destiny in your world or sphere of
influence.
Bankers, Doctors are to be empowered and equipped to
be good at their jobs and bring the Kingdom of God to
bear in their world!
To fulfill DESTINY not just PURPOSE
To go into the World this is not just preaching, God called you to be special or unique in your world.
Know who you are in your world not trying to find a job in the church system.
10 of 17 epistles were written to the saints not to
preachers.
To fulfill DESTINY not just PURPOSE
Control and a desire to be needed & finances has hidden this truth
from us.
To help us find out who we are in this world
Occupation –what occupies you to make a living vs. Vocation must now be
blended together.
Different purpose: OF THE SAINTS
Ephesians 4:1-7 KJV
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation
wherewith ye are called, (2) With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing
one another in love; (3) Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Different purpose: OF THE SAINTS
Ephesians 4:1-7 KJV
(4) There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; (5) One Lord, one faith, one baptism, (6) One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all,
and in you all. (7) But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the
gift of Christ.

Many want to be preachers because they do not know who they are, if
they did they wont want to preach because its more
glorious!

The Scope of our Assignment
Matthew 28:18-20
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 “teaching them to observe all things that
I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
The Scope of our Assignment
Matthew 28:18-20 another translation
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.
Amen.
The Scope of our Assignment
Mark 16:15-18
15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every
creature. 16 “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast
out demons; they will speak with new tongues;
Distinction: Preaching &Teaching
Preaching is to proclaim and
Teaching is to explain.
TRAINING: 1 a: the act, process, or method of one
that trains 1b: the skill, knowledge, or experience
acquired by one that trains2: the state of being
trained
Distinction: Preaching &Teaching
Teaching them what?
To become pastors and preachers, no! It is
amazing that for many years we have taught that the five fold ministry found in Ephesians and that have Spiritual gifts operating in
them are the only ministries in the church
Ministry vs. Ministry
If the work of the ministry totally within
the church why would need to equip the saints to do the
work of the ministry?
Its simply because there is a ministry
outside the church.
Ministry vs. Ministry
As we have Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists Pastors and Teachers
in Church have we also considered, in the same way, we
also have outside the church in what we call the secular:
Ministry vs. Ministry
Apostles in the market
place like Bill Gates of
Microsoft, who break new grounds
Ministry vs. Ministry
Prophets in the secular world like
stock brokers with an anointing to predict trends in the
world economy.
Ministry vs. Ministry
Evangelists the world greatest
salesmen like the Coca Cola
Marketing Company selling the world a drink that actually does the body harm when taken in excess with a
marking budget of over 5 billion dollars.
Ministry vs. Ministry
Teachers,
this a common as anyone who has gone through
any educational systems with dedicated teachers
who make amazing sacrifices for their
students
Ministry vs. Ministry
Pastors can be represented by
care groups Alcoholic
Anonymous helping people get over
addictions but then again every man is the pastor of his family.
Global Impact
Matthew 5:14-16
14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 “Nor do they light a
lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify
your Father in heaven.
Its all of us even in Church Services!
• 1 Corinthians 14:26 • 26 How is it then, brethren? Whenever
you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a
revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one
interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak
to himself and to God.
Its all of us even in Church Services!
• Hebrews 10:25 • 25 not forsaking the
assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of
some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more
as you see the Day approaching.
Its all of us even in Church Services!
1 Corinthians 14:28-33
28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak
to himself and to God.29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge.30 But if anything is revealed to another
who sits by, let the first keep silent.
Its all of us even in Church Services!
1 Corinthians 14:28-33
31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be
encouraged.32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.33 For God is not the author of confusion but of
peace, as in all the churches of the saints.
Its all of us even in Church Services!
Do you think it will change how we prepare and come to church knowing it could
be you with a psalm hymn etc
An example of the impact!1 Corinthians 14:23-25
23 Therefore if the whole church comes together in one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in
those who are uninformed or unbelievers, will they not say that you are out of your mind? 24 But if all
prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by all, he is
convicted by all. 25 And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you.
Why are we not seeing this impact in church today?
Proverbs 22:6 KJV
(6) Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
(LITV) Train up a boy on the opening of his way, even when he is old, he will not turn aside
from it.
(MSG) Point your kids in the right direction-- when they're old they won't be lost.
Why are we not seeing this impact in church today?
Notice it’s the way he should go not the
way you would that he go i.e. where he wants to go – not a
doctor or lawyer or a pastor, the way he
wants to go – should go
Qualification & Destination
Revelation 12:11
11 “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by
the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to

Qualification & DestinationDaniel 7:21-22
21 “I was watching; and the same horn was making war against the saints, and
prevailing against them, 22 “until the Ancient of Days came, and a judgment was made in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the
time came for the saints to possess [occupy or hold on] the kingdom.

God plans to bless us in egypt and makes us rulers over Pharaoh’s
Resources
Our ignorance of this fact has limited our
impact in Government and the Society and we
have not raised a generation to do this!
Joseph, his brothers & pharaoh
We in the five fold ministry were not
called to reach the world
We were called to reach the saints. The saints were called to
reach the world!
Conclusions
It’s a joint operation but now we must redefine our:
GIFTS, ADMINSTRATION & OPERATIONS
Conclusions
I need us to find our place either in Ministry TO
the Saints or the Ministry OF the
Saints and in some cases both!
Conclusions
We are the salt of the earth and light of the world
not the salt of church or the
light of the church.
Conclusions
Conclusions
The implications of these truths are far reaching and will
provide us the means and resources to
impact our world like never before.
Conclusions
Bringing the church back to
relevance, a relevance that
affects its members, the
community and the Nation!
