The Aztec Emperor Moctezuma did not know if he should welcome Cortez as a God or as an enemy.

He wasn’t sure if their visit to the Americas should be tolerated or pushed out in another direction.

Moctezuma called upon Texcoco and Tacuba to organize a reception.

They gave Cortez gifts and they openly welcomed his group.

Cortez responded by stating he came in the name of a powerful lord and God who reigned across the World.
